Under general supervision, the Custodial Assistant Supervisor performs janitorial duties and supervises custodial staff assigned to clean the interior of public buildings, schools, other facilities and surrounding areas. The essential functions of this class include: assigning, supervising and participating in the work of a small group of custodians; inspecting and ensuring completion of work assignments and checking and verifying time records; attending training and seminars on safety issues, and training custodial staff; inspecting buildings, grounds and equipment and requisitioning repairs needed; evaluating, counseling and initiating performance appraisals and/or disciplinary actions; communicating with staff, administrators, clients, and the general public as authorized; maintaining standards of work performance and replacing absent custodians; making minor/interim repairs; requesting, requisitioning and maintaining an inventory of janitorial supplies; coordinating, scheduling, and supervising custodial operations for special events; arranging furniture or equipment for meetings; may apply basic computer skills to generate reports and inventories; and performing related duties as required. The essential functions of this classification include, but are not limited to, the following: Assigns, supervises, and participates in the work of a small group of custodians engaged in performing a variety of cleaning tasks in buildings and surrounding areas at various sites; Attends training and seminars on safety issues, and trains custodial staff in the proper use of chemicals, tools and equipment, and other safety and security procedures; Inspects buildings, grounds and equipment, and reports/requisitions repairs needed to remedy unsightly, improper or unsafe conditions, and to respond to emergencies and complaints; Makes emergency interim and minor repairs as needed; makes referrals for proper repairs; Maintains standards of work performance and replaces absent custodians when necessary; applies departmental or City policies and procedures related to supervision of personnel; Inspects and ensures completion of work assignments according to specified schedules; checks and verifies time records; Requests, requisitions and maintains inventory of janitorial supplies and equipment; maintains records of usage manually or by using computer systems; Coordinates, schedules, and supervises custodial operations to prepare for special events; Arranges furniture, fixtures and equipment in rooms for meetings or display purposes; Communicates with staff, administrators, clients, and the general public as authorized in person or in writing by preparing and completing a variety of forms, reports, memos and electronic mail; responds to routine complaints; Evaluates, counsels and initiates performance appraisals and/or disciplinary actions to enforce departmental and City personnel laws and regulations; May apply basic computer skills to generate reports and inventories; Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
