About The Position

The Foundation for Hispanic Education (TFHE) is seeking a reliable, skilled, and service-oriented individual to join our team as a Campus Maintenance worker. Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, and in collaboration with the site administrator, the Campus Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and general upkeep of school facilities, buildings, and grounds across TFHE campuses. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a welcoming and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors by performing daily custodial duties, routine maintenance, and minor repairs. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. This role requires basic knowledge of custodial and maintenance practices, proper use of cleaning materials and equipment, and adherence to safety procedures. Flexibility, dependability, and a strong commitment to supporting the school community are essential.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of training and/or two years of experience in custodial, maintenance, safety, and groundskeeping.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred
  • Valid California Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of basic methods and practices related to custodial work, general maintenance, safety procedures, and groundskeeping.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and perform repetitive manual tasks.
  • Ability to operate maintenance and custodial equipment using a variety of standardized methods.
  • Ability to perform multiple non-technical tasks while adhering to safety practices and protocols.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Punctual, dependable, takes initiative, detail-oriented, and organized.

Nice To Haves

  • Handyman and locksmith knowledge desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general repairs of building systems across all TFHE campuses as assigned by the Director.
  • Conduct routine upkeep of campus facilities, including cleaning and maintaining the school auditorium, restrooms, common areas, athletic fields, and parking lots.
  • Sweep and mop classroom spaces, building corridors, stairwells, atriums, outdoor areas, and other common areas daily, as directed.
  • Perform weekly mopping of all indoor campus spaces and power washing of exterior concrete areas to maintain cleanliness and safety.
  • Assist with vehicle-related tasks such as coordinating maintenance appointments and managing vehicle rentals when assigned.
  • Monitor and replenish supplies in restrooms, break rooms, nutrition areas, and other designated spaces on a daily basis.
  • Support the setup and breakdown of on-campus events and meetings under the Director’s direction.
  • Collaborate with the facilities team on maintenance projects and internal moves, including furniture assembly and disposal, lifting and moving items (25+ lbs.)., interior/exterior painting, aesthetic repairs, and minor equipment or fixture repairs.
  • Report and refer incidents (e.g., injuries, conflicts, suspicious behavior) to appropriate site personnel in accordance with administrative protocols.
  • Operate standard equipment related to facilities and operations, including two-way radios, computers, copiers, golf carts, cleaning equipment, and maintenance tools.
  • Ensure campus security by overseeing the locking and unlocking of doors and gates, and conducting regular checks to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Complete special assignments and other duties as directed by the supervisor.
