About The Position

Open to candidates who are permanent or those who have filed for the PROMOTION TO CUSTODIAN Exam No. 6521 within the filing period From: October 1, 2025 To: October 21, 2025 or the OPEN COMPETITIVE CUSTODIAN Exam No. 6041 within the filing period From: October 1, 2025 To: October 21, 2025. The Bureau of Operations is responsible for Citywide management of the District Health facilities in all five boroughs which comprise over 300,000 square footages of property. Bureau of Operations provides infrastructure and general business services to the agency, to support effective and efficient delivery of public health services. The Bureau of Operations provides key, vital support services to the Department including but not limited to the Public Health Laboratory and the District Health Centers throughout the five boroughs. DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO: Citywide position- Location assignment subject to change based on the need of the agency. Duties will include but not be limited to: Sweep, damp mops, and wet mops office floors, toilets, corridors, lobbies and other assigned areas. Order janitorial supplies Empty waste baskets and dispose of refuse. Vacuum rugs and carpets. Replace bulbs and fuses. Perform shoulder high and high dusting of walls. Polish furniture and metal work. Maintain lawns and shrubs, operate a low-pressure heating system. Enforce safety requirements and protect the building and grounds from vandalism. Inspect interior and exterior of assigned building daily, including boilers, elevators and related equipment. Replace broken window and door glass Make minor repairs to masonry, woodwork flooring, walls, electrical, plumbing and heating systems. Assure proper heat, maintenance of pneumatic controls, ejector pits and other electrical or plumbing problems. Requirements

  • Two years of full-time satisfactory experience in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings.
  • To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have three years of satisfactory experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" above.
  • To be assigned to Assignment Level III and IV candidates must have four years of satisfactory experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" above.
