The Bureau of Vital Statistics operates a statewide system for the registration of births, deaths, and other vital events that happen within the state of Ohio. We are currently seeking an experienced customer service specialist to provide information and communicate procedures to obtain or amend vital records. This job entails the following tasks: Provides information and/or processes transactions that do not require in-depth knowledge of applicable federal and/or state laws, rules, policies, procedures and/or legal interpretations to respond to inquiries, requests and/or complaints from internal and/or external customers received by incoming phone calls and other means of communication (e.g., in writing and/or by e-mail, fax, in-person) Reviews and verifies legal paperwork (e.g., birth and death corrections/affidavits, abortions, adoptions, paternities, court ordered corrections) for accuracy and completeness Makes sure all necessary data that is part of the public record portion of a birth and death certificate is contained within the legal paperwork Indexes and cross references legal paperwork to original birth and death records using manual and electronic methods (i.e., IPHIS) Proofs and types documents and makes corrections (i.e., birth and death corrections/affidavits, abortions, adoptions, paternities, court ordered corrections) This position will report to 4200 Surface Road, Columbus, Ohio, working in office Monday - Friday during core business hours. This position falls within the unclassified civil service status. Employees in the unclassified civil service of the state of Ohio serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority and may be removed from their unclassified position at any time for any legal reason.
