Come work with us. The Cybersecurity & DigitalOps Division governs, secures, manages, and supports the core computing infrastructure and services at PNNL. We protect and defend PNNL’s infrastructure, data, and reputation from cyber adversaries and we influence, advance, and showcase cybersecurity research at PNNL through strong partnerships with our research groups. Our core infrastructure technology and services deliver rigorous, efficient, and operationally excellent services to the Laboratory, maximizing productivity and enabling employees to work anytime, anywhere. PNNL is looking for a Data Engineer to join our Cybersecurity Data Science & AI team. We are looking for an experienced engineer with a passion for cybersecurity who wants to help build the data platforms and front-end interfaces for innovative cyber analytics capabilities. This critical role is part of a growing team of experienced cybersecurity experts with a culture of collaboration, creativity, agility, and professional delivery. Your contributions will directly impact the cyber defense of PNNL and our support of diverse sponsor missions. Requirements

  • BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience -OR-
  • MS/MA -OR-
  • PhD
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance with 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
  • Drug Testing: All Security Clearance positions are Testing Designated Positions, which means that the applicant selected for hire is subject to pre-employment drug testing, and post-employment random drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).
  • Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy if non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 months cannot be demonstrated.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree and educational coursework in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience designing and managing large-scale and high-performance ETL pipelines, cloud infrastructure, deploying analytics/machine learning applications and/or building enterprise dashboards.
  • UI/UX optimization experience and training.
  • Experience with a variety of data platforms such as Splunk, Elastic, SQL and NoSQL databases, cloud data services.
  • Software development/scripting experience (eg: Python, REST APIs).
  • Supporting CI/CD pipelines (eg: GitHub Actions, GitLab pipelines).
  • Writing guidelines, procedures, and business rules to support software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborating/supporting Data Scientists/Analysts, Machine Learning Engineers, and/or Software Engineers.
  • Strong peer leadership, interpersonal, collaborative, and customer relationship skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimize customer-facing web applications that serve as the front end portal for Cybersecurity Data Science & AI. Provide technical leadership around modern software engineering and UI/UX fundamentals.
  • Work closely with data scientists, cyber analysts, and other engineers to understand requirements and design scalable and high performance solutions for innovative cyber analysis capabilities.
  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain a variety of cyber platforms, tools, and data pipelines to enable advanced analytics, data science, and AI/ML solutions, both on-premise and in the cloud.
  • Work independently and lead collective team efforts to achieve cyber program objectives.
