About The Position

This role offers the opportunity to support high-impact IT and healthcare projects within a federal portfolio, ensuring the security and integrity of critical systems. The Cyber Security Analyst will lead and coordinate security and privacy activities across multiple projects, developing and implementing solutions that comply with federal regulations such as NIST, FISMA, HIPAA, and HITECH. You will monitor cybersecurity priorities, manage Authority to Operate (ATO) processes, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to mitigate risks. This position requires hands-on technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, remote environment. Your work will directly impact the security posture of enterprise systems that serve millions of users.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field (5 additional years of experience may substitute for degree).
  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, preferably supporting federal or healthcare IT systems.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Strong knowledge of federal cybersecurity frameworks and regulations, including FISMA, NIST-800-53, HIPAA, and HITECH.
  • Hands-on experience achieving ATO for federal projects or similar environments.
  • Proficiency with security engineering concepts, risk management, and governance tools (e.g., ServiceNow, GRC, CAM).
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning tools (HBSS, ACAS, NESSUS) and cloud security practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to work independently and collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications such as Security+, CISSP, CISM, CEH, or GSEC preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support cybersecurity initiatives across multiple projects within a federal IT portfolio.
  • Lead and coordinate security and privacy activities, including documentation, artifact creation, and compliance tracking.
  • Review and validate system/application security controls in alignment with federal guidelines (NIST SP-800 53 Rev 5, VA Handbook 6500).
  • Assist in achieving and maintaining Authority to Operate (ATO) and Authority to Connect (ATC) for systems and applications.
  • Conduct risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with development, operations, and project teams to integrate security architecture into the SDLC.
  • Participate in audits, incident response, contingency planning, and continuous monitoring initiatives.
  • Maintain and update security-related artifacts and documentation, ensuring timely deliverables.
