Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a professional demeanor with customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects up to 50 lbs; frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks; performs repetitive arm movements for product preparation and display.
  • Requires manual dexterity and strong eye‑hand coordination; ability to stand for long periods.
  • Mental alertness required to ensure safe and accurate completion of tasks.
  • Requires knowledge of basic math, weights and measures, product varieties, perishability, product handling, sanitation, labeling, and department procedures.
  • Operates telephones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines; uses cleaning supplies and related equipment.
  • Uses computer software and electronic ordering systems.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays; schedule varies.
  • Reliable attendance is required.
  • Exposure to potential hazards exists related to equipment and work aids.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast, friendly Customer Service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions.
  • Engages in suggestive selling and additional sales techniques through phone interaction, intercom announcements, and one‑on‑one customer contact.
  • Answers incoming calls, resolves customer concerns appropriately, and informs the Store Director when needed.
  • Rotates and removes outdated or spoiled products; maintains department and work‑area cleanliness.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Ensures merchandise is correctly priced, fully stocked, neatly displayed, and shelves are clean and well maintained.
  • Assists in other areas of the Grocery Department as needed.
  • Follows and maintains department standards and requirements.
  • Maintains working knowledge of company policies and guidelines outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Ensures proper code‑dating procedures are consistently followed for all products in the department.
  • Assists with semi‑annual physical inventory.
  • Controls inventory to ensure adequate quantity, quality, and freshness while maintaining division‑directed stock levels. Rotates product regularly.
  • Supervises reclamation processing and maintains orderly, in‑stock conditions in the back room and all Dairy Department areas.
  • Controls shrink and cost.
  • Implements proper product preparation techniques; operates equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines.
  • Performs receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying invoices, assessing product quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product.
  • Adheres to temperature, storage, and packaging guidelines; completes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department records.
  • Accurately completes and monitors daily logs, sales and labor reports, and other required paperwork.
  • Ensures proper temperature levels for all products and complies with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and company code‑dating policies.
  • Follows all workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensures safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of work areas, coolers, equipment, and displays, including code‑date compliance.
  • Executes emergency procedures during equipment or computer software malfunctions.
  • Operates computer systems and electronic ordering devices to order product.
  • Complies with company grooming standards and dress code.
  • Performs all job duties safely, accurately, honestly, and with integrity.
  • Performs other necessary and assigned duties.
