Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with emphasis on fast, friendly service.
  • Assist customers by providing product suggestions.
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques through telephone, in‑store intercom announcements, and one‑on-one customer interaction.
  • Answer and respond to incoming calls; resolve customer concerns and escalate to the Store Director as necessary.
  • Rotate and discard outdated or spoiled product; ensure cleanliness and organization of the work area and department.
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Ensure merchandise is correctly priced, properly displayed, and shelves are clean and well‑maintained.
  • Assist in other areas of the Grocery Department as needed.
  • Follow and maintain department standards and requirements.
  • Ensure correct product preparation techniques are followed.
  • Control inventory to maintain adequate quantity, quality, and freshness according to division directives.
  • Stock, rotate, and maintain product throughout the department.
  • Supervise reclamation processing and maintain orderly, in‑stock conditions in the back room and Dairy Department areas.
  • Assist with physical inventory conducted every 6 months.
  • Ensure proper code dating compliance for all products.
  • Control shrink and cost through proper handling, rotation, and inventory practices.
  • Use and operate equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines.
  • Ensure proper temperature controls are maintained for all products during storage, display, and handling.
  • Follow all retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, company policies, and code‑dating standards.
  • Follow workplace safety rules and ensure a safe, clean, and sanitary environment in all work, cooler, equipment, and display areas.
  • Implement emergency procedures for equipment or software malfunctions.
  • Perform receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying orders using invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, and stocking/rotating product.
  • Adhere to temperature and storage guidelines and follow proper packaging techniques.
  • Process administrative paperwork and maintain accurate department records.
  • Complete and monitor required logs including daily log sheets, sales and labor reports, and other departmental documentation.
  • Operate computer software and electronic ordering devices.
  • Comply with and ensure compliance with company grooming standards and dress code.
  • Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
