About The Position

We are looking for motivated Data Science / Analytics Interns to join our Data Team at CNX Resources. You will work alongside experienced data professionals and get hands-on exposure to the full data lifecycle — from quality checks and exploratory analysis to building dashboards, automating workflows, and exploring AI integration. What matters most in this role is curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a solid foundation in Python and SQL. A key part of this role is acting as a Data Advocate: helping colleagues across operations and other business units understand and make use of the data available to them through our Snowflake data lake. You will help bridge that gap by supporting teams in finding, interpreting, and trusting their data.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of Python — comfortable using pandas and numpy for data manipulation; no expert-level skills required.
• Solid understanding of SQL fundamentals: writing queries, joins, aggregations, and filters.
• Eagerness to learn and ask questions; ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Strong communication skills — able to explain data findings to people who may not have a technical background.
• Experience building dashboards or reports in Power BI or Spotfire (even from coursework or personal projects counts).
• Machine Learning: Basic familiarity with machine learning concepts — for example, regression, classification, or clustering.
• Exposure to cloud data platforms or data warehousing concepts (Snowflake experience is a plus but not required).
• Experience with version control using Git and GitHub.
• Prior internship, research, or project experience working with real-world datasets.

Responsibilities

• Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to uncover trends, patterns, and insights that support business decisions.
• Create and maintain visualizations, dashboards, and reports using Power BI, Spotfire, or Excel to make data accessible and understandable.
• Data Advocacy: Help colleagues across operations and other departments access, navigate, and use data from our Snowflake data lake. This includes answering data questions, running queries on their behalf, and training users in a friendly, approachable way.
• Data Accuracy & QC: Conduct data quality checks (QC) and validation to catch errors, flag inconsistencies, and maintain the accuracy and trustworthiness of datasets in Snowflake.
• AI Enablement & Innovation: Drive the adoption of AI tools across the organization by identifying practical use cases, training team members on AI-powered workflows (e.g., Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT), and leveraging AI alongside our data infrastructure to solve real-world operational problems more efficiently.
• Write and optimize Python and SQL code for data pipelines, reporting automation, and ad-hoc analysis tasks.
• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, managers, and operational stakeholders to understand project needs and deliver clear, actionable outputs.
