Data Intern
About The Position
OceanX is seeking a Data Intern to support the Data Team in building data pipelines, visualizations, and analytical workflows. This role provides hands-on experience working with data produced by the Science and Digital Programs teams to improve operational efficiency and increase data visibility across the organization. This program will run from June through August and involves working approximately 40 hours per week. This opportunity operates on a hybrid work schedule in our NYC office to allow for in-person meetings/collaboration. Requirements
- Actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields
- Familiarity with one or more of the following: Python, SQL, Javascript/Typescript
- Familiarity with relational databases such as MySQL or Postgres
- Familiarity with version control software such as Git
- Determined, resourceful and practical. An independent, self-starter, with a “roll up your sleeves” attitude and strong work ethic
- Agility, with a track record of getting things done
- Organized, reliable, and meticulous
- Ability to prioritize, meet tight deadlines, anticipate needs, and maintain high quality work
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Comfortable with ambiguity
- Maintains high standards
- Highly collaborative
- General curiosity and passion for the Ocean
Responsibilities
- Work closely with our Digital Programs and Science teams to develop project plans and requirements for data projects
- Develop data ingestion pipelines using Python and related technologies
- Build data normalization / transformation processes using DBT and SQL
- Build data visualizations using Metabase
- Contribute to user-facing Science Data Products using Python and Javascript/Typescript
- Contribute to Agentic AI workflow design and implementation
