All internship positions are designed to give college students an opportunity to apply techniques learned in an academic setting while obtaining new skills. This is a paid internship offering full-time hours during the summer months. All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. Please note that no relocation assistance or sponsorship is provided for the internship program at this time. Position Summary: This Data Science intern position will drive improvements to automation, data processing, and analytics within the Hematology Division. In this role, you will design and implement statistical methods and data analysis tools by collaborating with laboratory scientists to automate manual processes and ensure robust, reproducible statistical analysis. This role requires a basic understanding of using programming languages such as Python or R for data processing.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a BS in Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics or a related quantitative field.
  • Must have completed (at minimum) the sophomore year of college.
  • Must be able to work full-time during the duration of the internship program.
  • Basic proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Familiarity with data cleaning, transformation, and visualization techniques.
  • Understanding of fundamental concepts in data structures and algorithms.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willingness to learn cloud platforms for data processing, analytics, and more (familiarity is a plus)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with pandas or pyspark is a plus.
  • Interest in applying data science to clinical diagnostic tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and implementing automated workflows for data processing and analysis.
  • Develop tools to clean, transform, and organize large datasets for downstream analysis.
  • Collaborate with laboratory scientists to understand current workflows and process, data requirements, and integrate solutions into existing processes.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Maintain well-documented code to ensure reproducibility.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings and contribute ideas for improving data handling and automation strategies.
