About The Position

The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. We are a true farm-to-table company with an integrated portfolio including food processing and food brands, phosphate mining, fertilizer manufacturing, farming, ranching and cattle production, and other enterprises related to agriculture. Summary As an Intern Data Scientist with Simplot, you will leverage and develop your training in statistics, machine learning and AI to develop solutions that solve complex business and operational problems. You will work closely with technical and business experts on challenging projects, derive and communicate meaningful insights to business partners, and develop and deploy automated solutions to create business value across a variety of domains. In this role, you will have the opportunity to interact with a collaborative team of skilled data scientists, participate in high priority initiatives, and grow your own skillset and qualifications through your work. Your knowledge, curiosity, and integrity will be instrumental in representing our team in engagements with our partners and stakeholders across the company, and in advancing Simplot’s utilization and development of industry-leading innovations in advanced analytics and AI. The duration of this in person internship is expected to be at least 6 months.

Requirements

  • Pursuing Masters/PhD degree in Data Science or a related field.
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of key statistical/machine learning/artificial intelligence concepts and techniques.
  • Experience with standard python libraries for data science.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exhibits a high level of initiative and integrity.
  • Experience and comfort with constructive in-person collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Determine data needed for analytic methods and decision models based on an understanding of the business needs and the technical definitions of the data available.
  • Select and implement feature engineering approaches and other data preparation methods according to business domain and modeling requirements.
  • Train and validate machine learning and AI models for use cases in agronomic, manufacturing or other business domains.
  • Develop visualizations, interactive applications and presentation materials to share solutions and insights with business partners.
  • Deploy solutions for scalable, reliable business utilization
