About The Position

Under general supervision of the Manager of Applications Engineering, the Data Warehouse Engineer position is responsible for designing, developing, documenting, and maintaining the University’s enterprise data warehouse. This includes working with campus stakeholders and other data consumers to determine requirements, design solutions, and model data. Primary activities include the design, implementation, testing, documentation and support of data models, programs, data pipelines, and scripts that produce appropriate and useful business intelligence capabilities for the campus community. This role involves developing and supporting methods to integrate data with the campus computing infrastructure, utilizing current technologies and DevOps philosophies. #CalPolyITS This position is eligible for remote work pursuant to Cal Poly’s Telecommuting and Remote Work Guidelines and the CSU policy requiring that all work be performed within the State of California. Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience building required infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from various data sources using AWS-specific and general relational database technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building and optimizing data sets, data pipelines and architectures.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing and supporting data warehouse star schema models and applications.
  • Demonstrated skills using database/query languages to store, manipulate, and retrieve data (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, or Aurora).
  • Demonstrated programming skills using modern languages (e.g., Python).
  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience.
  • Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
