About The Position

Day Camp Counselors – Summer Help - Newark Ohio For Licking Knox Goodwill Industries The Grove by the River 840 Hollander Street, Newark, Ohio 43055 Beginning June 1, 2026, and ending July 31, 2026 Number of positions:5 Pay: $12.00 per hour Must be 16 years or older Summer Camps are Monday through Friday – 9:00 am to 4:00 pm - hours may slightly vary The Grove Academy launched their first day camp in summer of 2016. Thanks to many partnerships formed in the community, we are able to offer four full weeks of camp every summer with two additional single-day camps offered during spring and winter school breaks. Each of our camps are themed with unique and exciting experiences. Camp counselors work camp weeks and the weeks between camps to learn activities and help set everything up! June 1 – 5, 2026 – mandatory training days 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Camp is offered June 8 – 12, 2026; June 22 – 26, 2026; July 6 – 10, 2026 and July 20 – 24, 2026. Applicants must be able to work a minimum of 3 full weeks of camp without requesting time off. The weeks in between camps are for prep and staging of upcoming camps.

Requirements

  • 16 years of age or older
  • Experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field preferred.
  • Complete First Aid and CPR certification (Part of new hire training)
  • Be able to restrain and physically support children when needed for safety in general day camp activities (child weighing 50 – 200 pounds).
  • Must have the ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to hiking, kayaking, swimming, team building, building campfires, physical games and activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include: crafts, nature, songs, games, opening and closing ceremonies, swimming, archery, and kayaking.
  • Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Day Camp Leadership.
  • Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the day camp program.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the day camp and all program areas. This includes, but is not limited to, being responsible for camper safety and their whereabouts at all times.
