Summary: Our caring and enthusiastic Inclusion Counselors provide one on one support to children and youth with developmental disabilities as they participate in regular camp programming and participate along with campers in a variety of activities including: swimming, outdoor activities, crafts, drama, sports and nature.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required; Minimum of 18 years of age is required.
Experience working closely with children or youth disabilities is required.
Understanding of the unique needs of children and youth with developmental disabilities is required.
Ability to provide guidance, supervision, and engage with children in an enthusiastic manner is necessary.
Ability to relate to and communicate with one’s peer group, parents, as well as to child’s age and skill levels is necessary.
Ability to assist children in emergency situations, including fire, evacuation, illness, or injury is required.
Demonstrate enthusiasm, patience, and self-control in a dynamic environment is necessary.
Current CPR and First Aid certification is required and must be maintained.
Registration for the MO Family Care and Safety Registry is required for these positions and registration will be provided if necessary.

Nice To Haves

Current college student or graduate in a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

Attend mandatory staff orientation and training days.
Engage with camper at all times.
Support camper as they participate in group or individual activities, helping them to be successful in all camp programs.
EC Life-enrichment counselor will be 1:1 or 1:2 with a child/children within the group environment
Write and maintain progress notes pertaining to each camper’s goals.
Make accommodations to activities, as needed, to allow the campers to fully participate.
Facilitate transitions or sensory breaks as needed.
Assist campers with personal care needs as needed.
Appropriately manage crisis situations related to behavior or health as needed.
Work cooperatively with teachers and specialists leading the program.
Care for the physical and emotional well-being of campers at all times.
Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving.
Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
Enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures.
Attend all staff meetings throughout the summer.
