About The Position

This Position is responsible for carrying out various duties on heavy machinery from setup to operation. Setup Technicians work with computer-controlled equipment or more mechanically based machines to make sure they are set up properly, working well, and producing quality product. Machine operators make sure their machines are working at full capacity, well-maintained and perform periodic checks on output. Reports to Die Cast Setup Supervisor / Die Cast Manager

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent, and/or relevant vocational certification
  • 3 to 5 Years of experience in a die casting or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use precision measurement instruments and various machinery and equipment's
  • Ability to accurately record numerical data
  • Demonstrate mathematical skills such as add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to read, write and understand work instructions and visual drawings
  • Demonstrate strong attention to details
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Must be able to communicate in English

Nice To Haves

  • Forklift truck experience is preferred
  • Able to work in a team environment and work independently with little supervisor
  • Prompt and safe when completing tasks (Illinois)
  • Bilingual English-Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, assemble, set up and operate various die casting machines, equipment and peripherals for production.
  • Operate and set-up all oil heaters, ladles, auto sprayers, fixed head sprayers, safely and in an efficient manner.
  • Stage dies that are to be set-up for the next production run.
  • Perform minor maintenance on die cast dies machines and various equipment's as required.
  • Trouble shoot the die cast machines, i.e. castings sticking, core switches, water leaks.
  • Use the steam cleaner to clean the dies, floors, die cast machines.
  • Deliver shot sleeves to the appropriate location at the end of a run.
  • Operate lift trucks as necessary to perform task such as store unused dies on racks safely and correctly.
  • Keep the die cast area clean to work tools and related equipment that you have used.
  • Put unused dies in die racks safely and correctly.
  • Report any unsafe conditions for employees, dies machines to your supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Run samples / first pieces when required.
  • Use and understand set-up books.
  • Charge bottles.
  • Attend to machine breakdowns to identify the root cause and solve the problem.
  • Identify problems and recommend improvements to Die Casting and Tooling Department.
  • Help train Die Cast Operators.
  • Ensure that the facility areas and work environment are free of hazardous objects and substances.
  • Complete and keep proper record of work activities and work orders.
  • Keep the department and production area clean and orderly at all times; also following lean principles.
  • Work with other Setup Operators and other personnel to complete their projects on time.
  • Communicates and report all problems to Supervisor in a timely manner.
