About The Position

Under the direction of the Principal the Dean of Students functions as the school’s spiritual and academic leader fostering Catholic Identity in accordance with the school’s mission statement and philosophy; and is also responsible for supporting the Diocese of Tucson in its mission to evangelize and catechize youth in a Catholic School environment. The Dean of Students shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, “…Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received.” (Eph. 4:1).

Requirements

  • A working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
  • If not a baptized Catholic, must nonetheless abide by Catholic principles in the Dean of Students' professional and private life.
  • Excellent communications skills including written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills; must have excellent communications skills with children and adults.
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well-organized; must be a team player.
  • Be available for evening and weekend work as necessary; have reliable transportation.
  • Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer technology including word processing and the use of school related technology.
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately in a school ministerial environment.
  • Ability to facilitate the development of plans and a vision for the long term.
  • Exceptional capability to present information and respond to questions effectively from groups of parents, alumni, faculty and staff, Board members, and the general public.
  • Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Complete a criminal history and background check.
  • Valid and current Arizona DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Possess State of Arizona teaching certificate with renewal per state law
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain Level I Diocesan Ministry Certification
  • A minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in a classroom setting

Nice To Haves

  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Master’s degree in educational leadership or school administration preferred

Responsibilities

  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church; a Dean of Students may not espouse, in word or deed, any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Church.
  • Shall abide by Catholic principles in the Dean of Students' professional and private life and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral structures.
  • Model faith formation by developing and maintaining a school program for all students that includes daily prayer, religion classes, Liturgy, and service.
  • Recommends, administers, and enforces building policies and procedures related to attendance and discipline.
  • Supervises and is responsible for the maintenance and management of each student’s attendance and discipline records and policies.
  • Plans and implements preventive disciplinary and academic measures through student/parent conferences, changes in programming, counseling, schedule changes, behavioral plans, etc.
  • Maintains disciplinary files.
  • Exercises appropriate leadership in processing student behavioral problems including accurate record keeping of infractions as well as communication with parents and staff.
  • With Intervention Specialist, help organize and coordinate academic intervention programs for academically at-risk students including working lunch and assigned study halls.
  • With Intervention Specialist and Athletic Director, organizes and coordinates study table for failing students involved in activities.
  • Develop effective systems and structures to communicate student performance to students and families.
  • Creates and implements Athletic Eligibility reports.
  • Help supervise students before school, at lunch, and at events that may occur outside of regular hours.
  • All other duties as assigned by the School Principal.
