The Dean is responsible for providing strategic and visionary leadership for the School of Education (SOE); forging productive partnerships with community stakeholders, including P-12 schools, school districts, and families; and advocating internally and externally for all SOE programs and initiatives. The Dean leads regional and state accreditation efforts; oversees outcomes assessment; and ensures academic excellence in undergraduate, credential, and graduate programs. Oversight includes clinical experiences and field placements across disciplines. The Dean plays a key role in achieving enrollment targets; supervising faculty, staff, student employees, and key leadership roles, including the Director of Clinical Experiences & Partnerships and Accreditation. The Dean supports professional development and works collaboratively with program chairs and directors to facilitate the work of the faculty. The Dean also coordinates the School of Education Advisory Committee to ensure strong community engagement and responsiveness to regional workforce needs. The Dean is responsible for stewardship of resources, including active involvement in budget planning conversations, exercising fiscal oversight, and cultivating an environment of transparency and accountability. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, open-minded, and willing to lead strategic resource management in alignment with institutional goals. The Dean is also expected to: Advance mission-aligned inclusive excellence and student success across all areas of the School; Collaborate in the development of new programs, particularly at the master’s level; Expand and support teacher and counselor residency models and other innovative preparation programs; Pursue external funding, including grants, contracts, and philanthropic partnerships; Engage in change management and lead structural and operational improvements to ensure School effectiveness; Build relationships within and beyond the University, including collaboration across the CSU system and throughout the state of California. The Dean must be deeply committed to post-traditional students, including first-generation, low-income, transfer, multilingual learners, and students from historically marginalized communities. Familiarity with, or a background similar to, CSUCI’s student population is highly valued. The Dean will actively support CSUCI’s commitment to inclusive excellence by embedding equity-minded practices across all areas of the School’s work. They will participate annually in professional and/or leadership development opportunities that strengthen their ability to promote educational equity, access, and student success—particularly for historically underserved and marginalized communities—at CSUCI and in the broader educational landscape. Performs additional related duties as assigned.
