About The Position

This 2nd shift (4:00 PM–2:30 AM, four-day workweek) position is responsible for inspecting finished products to ensure they comply with legal, organizational, and customer specifications. The role uses a variety of hand and power abrasive brushes, fixtures, work instructions, and test equipment to perform a series of operations to deburr precision-machined components.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to high school education or related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and controls operation of computerized deburring and tooling machine to perform series of machining operations, such as drilling, chamfering, and deburring, on ball-shaped plastic typing element for use in electric typewriters: Reads blueprints, job order, and tooling instructions to determine cutting tools and sequence of operations.
  • Positions and secures deburring and cutting tools onto holding fixtures of machine, using handtools.
  • Depresses switch to actuate machine and observes machining operation to detect feeding and tooling malfunctions as typing element is automatically fed through series of tooling stations.
  • Adjusts and changes machine tools to ensure deburring meets company specifications.
  • Repairs or replaces parts, such as cylinders and air lines, using handtools.
  • Inspects machined typing elements at discharge end of machine to ensure conformance to quality specifications, using gauges and microscope.
  • Notifies engineering personnel when corrective action is required.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
