About The Position

We are currently seeking to hire a Deckhand aboard the Range-Support Craft (RSC) to support safe vessel operations, safely assists on deck, and ensure mission readiness under the direction of the vessel Master. This position requires a strong understanding of maritime operations, navigation, safety standards, and the ability to assist and communicate effectively with both government stakeholders and internal teams. The RSC is a 114-foot aluminum vessel, providing fleet training support for the Southern California Tactical Training Range (SCTTR) in the San Clemente Island Range Complex (SCIRC) W-291 area. The will be a vital crew member responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of the vessel. This role requires the ability to perform duties that are conducted in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard, Navy, and company standards. The RSC vessels will be maintained and berthed at Naval Base Point Loma, San Diego, CA.

Requirements

  • USCG Able Bodied (AB) Seaman MMC required.
  • Able to pass medical background exam for handling of Ordnance.
  • Valid TWIC and MMC with applicable endorsements.
  • High school diploma required; associate degree or higher in marine transportation or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years as AB, with experience in government or DoD operations preferred.
  • Experience operating vessels in support of military or scientific missions in open ocean and near-shore environments.
  • Proven success in role working alongside crew, operational timelines, and mission criticality.
  • Proficiency in electronic navigation systems (ECDIS, radar, GPS), maintenance logs, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting and mission coordination.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET DoD Security Clearance.
  • Valid state driver’s license; must qualify under company’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support operations, including potential CONUS/OCONUS locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with underway replenishment, towing, small craft operations, and working with support targets is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the safe operation, maintenance, and cleaning of vessel decks, equipment, and machinery to ensure seaworthiness and readiness for operations.
  • Handle mooring lines, fenders, and towing gear during docking, undocking, and vessel movements under direction of the Captain or Mate.
  • Support loading, offloading, and securing of cargo, equipment, and supplies in accordance with safety and operational procedures.
  • Conduct routine inspections, report deficiencies, and follow safety, environmental, and operational protocols while underway and in port.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and general upkeep of the ship.
