About The Position

CWI is seeking a collaborative and student-focused leader to serve as Department Chair within the School of Health. This is a faculty leadership role that blends teaching, academic leadership, and departmental operations. The Department Chair provides supervision and support to faculty, ensures instructional quality, helps guide curriculum and scheduling decisions, and serves as a key liaison between faculty and the Dean. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Health Science, Exercise Science, Public Health, or related discipline.
  • At least one year of demonstrated teaching excellence in a variety of courses.
  • At least one year of demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years at the post-secondary level preferred.
  • At least two years of leadership or supervisory experience in a post-secondary institution preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure High-Quality Instruction and Student Experience
  • Teach courses within the discipline as part of an assigned faculty load
  • Address and help resolve student inquiries and instructional concerns, including course access and transfer questions
  • Support a positive, student-centered learning environment aligned with CWI values
  • Lead, Support, and Evaluate Faculty Performance
  • Conduct classroom observations and complete evaluations for full-time faculty
  • Evaluate adjunct faculty and support continuous instructional improvement
  • Facilitate performance management and professional development in a timely manner
  • Support faculty understanding of and compliance with college policies, referring concerns to the Dean as appropriate
  • Lead productive department meetings and maintain consistent, transparent communication
  • Guide Academic Planning and Department Operations
  • Assign faculty to the annual class schedule in consultation with the Dean
  • Direct departmental efforts related to Dual Credit, assessment, and facilities needs
  • Review and make decisions regarding exceptions to academic requirements
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date department records
  • Review and recommend special course fee changes on a regular schedule
  • Contribute to Leadership, Staffing, and Resource Stewardship
  • Actively collaborate as a member of the School Leadership Team
  • Lead recruitment and hiring processes for departmental faculty and staff
  • Prepare and manage department operating budgets
  • Model and promote the professional standards and values of CWI
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of a balanced and effective workload
