About The Position

Since 1973, JR Engineering has successfully served a variety of clients throughout Colorado. Areas of service include land development, surveying, surface transportation, water resources, and structural engineering as well as construction services in each of our major disciplines. Our in-house staff of talented engineers, surveyors, and support personnel enables us to respond quickly to demanding assignments, project schedules, and changing project scopes. With an annual Net Revenue of $16.5 million in 2024, JR Engineering currently has 100 employees with plans to grow to 120 employees over the next 3-5 years. Job Summary: The Designer I, Design Engineer I, Engineer I will assist in the preparation of civil engineering plans, calculations, specifications, reports, cost estimates and other supporting documents and deliverables for residential subdivisions, commercial developments, and multi-family projects. We are looking to fill positions in Land Development, Transportation and Water Resources.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and associated design software (preferred).
  • Entry level multi-disciplinary knowledge in civil engineering including land development, transportation, water resources, wastewater, structural, and geotechnical topics.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving, conflict resolution, analytical, and time and resource management skills.
  • Collaboration is key.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Well organized and articulate; must be able to prioritize and execute effectively.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work effectively on a collaborative team to accomplish objectives under pressure.
  • Must also be highly self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited college or university (preferred).
  • 0 – 2 year experience in applicable civil engineering experience.
  • Designer I designation is for non-degreed individuals.
  • Engineer I designation once FE exam is passed.

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with the Team Lead or Project Manager to assist in the planning and design phase activities, including the drafting and preparation of civil construction plans, exhibits, specifications, and reports.
  • Prepare engineering designs for erosion control, potable and non-potable water line, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, drainage, roadway and site grading, site layout, and signage and striping plans.
  • Perform basic design computations and calculations including drainage, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, earthwork quantities, cost estimates, exhibits, and other supporting documentation for various land development projects.
  • Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
  • Performs plan and detail drafting using AutoCAD. Model & paper space environment, sheet sets, data references, x-references, and blocks.
  • Exercise of judgement is required at a minimum level on details of work and making initial selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives for team discussion.
  • Responsible for specific components of the overall design effort.
  • Perform construction plan drafting using AutoCAD software.
