A Design Manager supervises multiple teams of engineers, designers, and drafters to design material handling systems that are on time, accurate, and on budget. The individual in this role is ultimately responsible for the overall layout, fabrication drawings, and installation drawings for multiple material handling projects. Additionally, the Design Manager is expected to anticipate and support the needs of Field Operations and Project Management. A Design Manager will also be involved in improving and developing processes, procedures, and tools that the company uses to deliver projects. He or she leads reviews of designs based on data from site visits and suggests any needed corrective actions to prevent problem recurrence. A Design Manager may also be expected to come up with effective new designs to meet the needs of the business and material handling customers. As a team leader, the Design Manager is responsible for performance reviews, career planning, and the development of his/her people. Additionally, the Design Manager will manage any employee issues in collaboration with the HR Manager. Since this is a senior position, leadership skills are essential.
