About The Position

The Design Release Engineer - Wire Harness (Low Voltage) is a key position responsible for designing and implementing the power and signal distribution wiring systems in GM vehicle programs. It is an electrical engineering position within the Product Development Team in the Electrical SMT. The Power and Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS) team DRE will require to interface with other engineers from many other groups to integrate components, wiring and systems. The position entails working closely with vehicle program teams, other Product Development engineering groups such as interiors and body, purchasing, marketing, and manufacturing. What you will do: Provides program specific requirements for sourcing process and technical background in PSDS supplier technical reviews Creates initial harness parts list and complexity studies Maintains consistency of effort for the program - knows the PSDS Statement of Requirements, program, timing, issues, plan etc. and manages details when changes are required Manages efforts of the supplier within the engineering factory Identifies and schedules training needs accordingly with manager approval Participates in interface tradeoffs and resolves integration issues Manages the cost, quality, mass, etc. for the power and signal distribution system including content and program changes Supports Pre-Production build events including both physical and virtual builds Ensures that the design, development, and release of the Wiring system are integrated within the vehicle architecture with quality Conducts Product Development Team meetings to ensure deliverables and timing are met Leads/Assists benchmarking analysis to support innovation, tradeoff or cost /benefit analysis Leads/Assists with Peer and Wire Harness Assessment reviews and assembly plant launch and remediation support Performs complex design analysis, develop engineering designs (including subsystems) and Implements engineering changes Specifies and balances system requirements Plans and implements test and/or development programs Releases parts and subsystems for production What you need: Bachelor’s Degree in engineering 2 years of post-graduation engineering experience with Power Signal or Wire harness packaging as a plus Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others Previous hands on mechanical / electrical troubleshooting and repair experience (hobby / personal automotive experience is applicable) Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related area This position requires some travel as needed This posting is hiring for several mangers in the PSDS group, please note that there are several opportunities. #LI-JK3 GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role. Requirements
