About The Position

Albany County is seeking to hire a Cook in the Detention Center. This is a full-time, benefited position that will be responsible for providing a balanced nutritional program for the inmate population. The working hours for this position will be 5:30am – 3:30 pm OR 7:30am – 5:30pm. This position will work four, 10-hour shifts any combination of times. Weekend availability is a must.

Requirements

High School Graduate or GED

Nice To Haves

Prefer some cooking experience
Be self-directed, organized
The ability to work independently as well as with other kitchen staff
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Responsibilities

Preparing balanced nutritional meals for the occupants according to a pre-established menu
Ensuring that preparation techniques meet OSHA safety and health requirements for: Protective barriers during preparation; Proper serving size; Proper serving temperature; Proper equipment sanitation & storage
Accounting for utensil, equipment and implement: Counts before and after use (each meal); Proper function, condition, and needed repairs
Labor supervision & work schedules
Maintain the security of the kitchen areas and other areas used
Receive, off-load inventory, and store all supplies
Forecast, order, and verify projected supply needs
Comply with all Detention Center policies and procedures
Report to the Jail Administrator, Sergeant, Corporal/shift supervisor
Prepare and document meals prepared for inmates with special dietary needs
Other duties as assigned
