About The Position

Are you someone who enjoys connecting the dots, keeping things running smoothly and making sure the details truly matter? If you answered 'YES' the Wake County Sheriff's Office is looking for a Finance Coordinator who is ready to play a central role in supporting operations at our detention facility. In this role, you will provide supervision and leadership to the Detention Finance staff within the secured area of the Wake County Detention Center. The Coordinator plans, assigns and oversees daily work activities relating to the financial and property processes for confined residents held within the Detention Center. The position ensures that the detention finance staff performs the cash-handling, residents trust funds and property control functions accurately and according to policies and procedures. You will serve as the primary point of contact for the staff on duty and facilitate the resolution of operational issues, inquiries and emergent concerns relating to residents’ finances and property.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, cash management, and adherence to proper inventory principles for liability and control
  • Supplemental courses in accounting and business practices
  • Training as a cashier or bank teller, or a professional that involves money handling, inventory control and computer studies
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Ability to resolve issues and diffuse situations with residents and members of the public regarding monies and property
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within a team in a secured correctional environment
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to accurately handle cash and maintain detailed financial records
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of customer service principles
  • Proficiency in modern office technology and standard office equipment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment

Responsibilities

  • Supervise eight (8) shift Detention Finance Technicians in a 24/7 operational environment
  • Ensure the accuracy of inventory and document and securely store clothing and personal property belonging to residents within the secured facility
  • Ensure monies are accurately posted to residents’ accounts by the detention finance technicians
  • Ensure residents receive their funds upon release or transportation to another facility
  • Count and reconcile money to system reports and prepare money to be transported to the Finance Office daily for deposit
  • Maintain compliance with detention facility security protocols, financial regulations and institutional policies
  • Exercise sound judgement to make decisions in special situations not clearly defined by procedures
  • Manage staff work time to include approving payroll submissions and leave requests in accordance with scheduling needs
  • Serve as the primary contact to resolve property or money issues with residents or members of the public
  • Address resident grievances and assign or follow up on resident requests daily
