About The Position

The Windward School is a coeducational, independent day school dedicated to providing a proven instructional program for children with language-based learning disabilities. The multisensory curriculum is designed for students of average to superior intelligence who can benefit from the unique educational experience provided. Through direct instruction in small class settings, a trained staff assists students to improve their language skills. Academic success, combined with opportunities for social and emotional growth within an intentionally diverse and inclusive setting, enables students to understand their learning differences, build confidence, and develop self-advocacy skills. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1 – 2 years of professional or equivalent experience in non-profit and/or educational environment; specific experience in development, fundraising, event planning and/or volunteer management preferred
  • Organized, energetic, strategic, and collaborative; keen ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Effective relationship-builder; capable of working effectively with donors/prospects, volunteers, faculty/staff members, senior leadership, and consultants
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer fluency in Microsoft Office, donor database software, and web applications
  • Full driver's license and ability to move between Westchester campuses

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Westchester liaison to the Windward Parents Association (WPA), and works in consultation with the Associate Director of Development on WPA-related matters
  • Partners closely with the Manhattan Windward Fund Associate and WPA Liaison, WPA Co-Presidents, and Communications on managing content for the WPA weekly newsletter
  • Partners with Westchester WPA leadership on initiatives and events, including (but not limited to) online SpiritWear store, Back-to-School Picnic, Back-to-School Cocktail Party, Lower School grade events, Photo Day, Bookfair, Holiday Luncheon, Faculty and Staff appreciation initiatives, and Community Service Day
  • Engages with donors directly in person and by Zoom, phone, or email
  • Supports the Windward Fund Director in implementing Windward Fund initiatives with specific focus on the Westchester Lower and Middle Schools
  • Collaborates with the Windward Fund Director on Windward Fund communications, including writing, editing, and production oversight related to direct mail, email, phone, crowdfunding, social media fundraising, and giving days
  • Cultivates, solicits, and stewards an appropriately sized portfolio of prospective and current Westchester donors, building and maintaining excellent relationships
  • Secures Windward Fund gifts and works to increase participation, renewal, and upgrade rates
  • Recruits, trains, and cultivates Windward Fund volunteers across all grade levels from the Westchester Lower and Middle Schools
  • Prepares reports and other materials as directed by the Windward Fund Director
  • Maintains complete records in Raiser’s Edge for each person assigned to their portfolio, ensuring interactions with prospective donors are recorded in a timely fashion and important facts do not get lost
  • Attends fundraising cultivation and stewardship events as requested by senior Advancement staff
  • Performs other duties, as assigned
