DevOps Engineers automate software builds, test and deployment systems, and infrastructure as code. DevOps Engineers manage various development, test, staging, and demo environments (code deployment using Continuous Improvement (CI)/Continuous Delivery (CD) pipelines, backups, data refreshes), as well as deploy and manage software into Costco’s production environment while leveraging as much automation as possible. They are responsible for continually advancing the technology in a collaborative and creative agile environment using many of the latest technologies and industry best practices and finding better and more efficient ways of delivering solutions that meet business objectives. The IT Global Business Application & Platform Services (GBAPS) Team is creating a self-service platform that deploys cloud infrastructure for business applications as they are replatformed off our IBMi to a new tech stack with common core standards and services. This will increase replatforming and ongoing enhancements speed to market by helping value streams deliver solutions to the business through standardized offerings. The ideal candidate will have excellent troubleshooting skills; and the ability to logically think through problem situations. Must have a solid understanding of application architecture, network technologies, application security, and infrastructure architecture. Requirements

  • 10+ years’ IT experience.
  • Experience in software development and infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery.
  • Tooling and Automation: Source, Build/Test/Scan, Artifacts, Deploy.
  • Environments, Lifecycles, Application Boundaries, and Release Orchestration.
  • Reusable Steps & Scripting.
  • Working experience with infrastructure as code driven through CI/CD pipelines.
  • Templating, Modularity, Idempotency, and Reusability.
  • Provisioners vs. Configuration Management.
  • Experience provisioning and managing Azure cloud services with:
  • Subscriptions, policy management, resource groups.
  • Networking, VNets, private endpoints.
  • Google Cloud Platform Active Directory and Google Cloud Platform RBAC.
  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP) IaaS and PaaS.
  • Experience with the following:
  • Terraform HCL v0.13+, JSON, Powershell v5+, Bash v4+.
  • Google Cloud Platform DevOps Programmability.
  • Google Cloud Platform CLI & Terraform.
  • Azure DevOps for Project planning and tracking
  • Repositories, repository permissions, and branch policies, Pipelines and variables.
  • Solid understanding of development/coding methodologies.
  • Team player; good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, as well as creative, likes challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years’ experience deploying enterprise Google cloud technologies.
  • 8+ years’ experience with enterprise infrastructure and software systems.
  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP) certification(s) preferred.
  • Ability to automate software defined networking.
  • Knowledge of Agile Methodologies.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, creates and applies software development and security standards and practices.
  • Plans, designs, and documents software components.
  • Develops and operates end-to-end automated solutions for IT ops activities (including deployment, release management, monitoring, etc.)
  • Collaborates with Operations, Development, and QA functions to develop solutions that are predisposed to scalability and simplified maintenance.
  • Configures and maintains on-premises and Azure cloud infrastructure to ensure availability, performance, scalability and security of development, testing and production environments, relying on automated scripts and configuration management tools.
  • Creates, and manages Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Maintains, extends and builds automated CI and CD pipelines.
  • Demonstrates expertise in the deployment of integrated or stand-alone releases across multiple interconnected and dispersed applications.
  • Uses industry standard tools to improve and speed up delivery of our products and services.
  • Provides fast and thoughtful issue resolution by executing quick fixes or proactively identifying and solving problems related to builds in production environments.
  • Creates the pipeline to periodically generate code quality metrics.
  • Drives each team to be self-sufficient by providing tools and training and brings different teams together to work towards common goals.
  • Coordinates resources across technology functions to stand up and monitor environments.
  • Configures and automates development and test environment, deployment, automation and support test data management.
  • Establishes workflows that use the automated pipelines for CI and CD.
  • Works closely with product and application teams to create version control branching strategy.
  • Works cross-value streams with other DevOps Engineers to avoid and resolve merge conflicts.
  • Develops tool integrations that allow for end to end traceability for application development (from requirements to code objects changed to meet the requirements).
  • Design, provision, and manage enterprise-scale cloud infrastructure across GCP. This includes the administration of subscriptions, resource groups, and policy management, alongside complex networking configurations such as VNets and private endpoints to ensure a secure, high-availability landing zone.
  • Engineer Automated CI/CD Pipelines: Lead the development and optimization of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) workflows using Google DevOps.
  • Oversee the full release orchestration lifecycle—from source control and branch policies to automated testing and deployment—ensuring consistent delivery across diverse application boundaries.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Programmability: Develop modular, reusable, and idempotent infrastructure templates using Terraform (HCL), Bash, and PowerShell.
  • Ability to support off-hours work as required, including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis.
