About The Position

Modern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a DevOps Engineer who will design, implement, and sustain secure, cloud-native infrastructure supporting classified mission systems. In this role, you will manage AWS GovCloud environments using Infrastructure as Code, operate and optimize Kubernetes (EKS) clusters, and integrate security best practices throughout CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows. You will partner closely with developers to ensure reliable, scalable application delivery, contribute to architectural decisions on new initiatives, and support system performance through monitoring and automation. This position operates within a classified environment and requires on-site work in secure facilities.

Requirements

  • Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) T S/SCI security clearance.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a CI Polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Engineering, or related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • 2 - 4 years of professional experience as a Site Reliability Engineer , Platform Engineer, or Cloud Engineer emphasizing security best practices.
  • Strong hands-on experience managing AWS GovCloud environments.
  • Demonstrated experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters in production environments (EKS preferred).
  • Experience designing and managing AWS cloud environments, including IAM, networking, and security configurations.
  • Experience embedding security controls into infrastructure and deployment pipelines in compliance-driven environments.
  • Experience managing infrastructure as code with Terraform.
  • Familiarity with GitOps workflows and packaging apps using Helm.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools , such as Grafana, Prometheus, and Loki.
  • Proficiency in Python and Bash for automation and scripting and experience working with PostgreSQL databases.
  • Familiarity with government security and compliance frameworks and applying DevSecOps best practices for secure infrastructure and deployments.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS GovCloud certification.
  • Experience supporting mission systems in national security or space-related environments is a plus.
  • Experience implementing container security best practices (e.g., image scanning, RBAC, network policies, secrets management).
  • Experience operating in AWS GovCloud or other regulated cloud environments supporting classified workloads.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and administering our AWS cloud infrastructure across multiple accounts, leveraging Terraform and AWS best practices.
  • Overseeing and maintaining multiple EKS clusters, utilizing ArgoCD and Helm for deployments.
  • Leading efforts in logging, monitoring, and alerting to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Owning and optimizing GitLab CI/CD pipelines, collaborating closely with developers to meet evolving needs.
  • Contribute to greenfield initiatives, providing input and expertise in solution architecture.
  • Operate within a classified environment, with on-site presence required in secure facilities.
  • Integrate security best practices into CI/CD workflows, including vulnerability scanning, container hardening, and secure configuration management.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize Kubernetes cluster performance, networking, and deployment configurations across development and production environments.
  • Design and implement scalable, secure AWS cloud architectures aligned with mission and compliance requirements.
