About The Position

Performs independent diagnostic ultrasound examinations on "high-risk obstetrical" patients who will be subsequently evaluated and treated by a Maternal Fetal Medicine attending physician, preparing preliminary reports for physician review, and verifying data obtained from the sonogram. As needed, you may train staff to retrieve records to facilitate requests from referring physicians or fellow sonographers. You will work collaboratively with the Medical Directors, Perinatologists, fellow Sonographers, and the administrative team to ensure high satisfaction among patients and referring physicians.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technologist program or Diagnostic Medical Sonographer program.
  • Four to six (4-6) years of ultrasound technician experience.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Fetal Echo Training within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Registered as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).
  • Registered as a Technologist (RT) and certified in Sonography (S) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). State licensure is required by law.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross healthcare provider level CPR certification.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, to include physicians, leadership, and staff within the various affiliate organizations (UCH, Children’s Colorado, CU Medicine, CU SOM).
  • Ability to work within large, complex healthcare systems.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Ability to compile complex reports and develop presentations.
  • Ability to compose letters and memorandums.
  • Ability to deal calmly and courteously with people.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations.

Nice To Haves

  • One to two (1-2) years of vascular ultrasound technician experience in an outpatient “obstetrics.”
  • Bilingual, Spanish-speaking.
  • Epic and Kronos experience.

Responsibilities

  • At the direction of a qualified physician or advanced practice provider (APP), performs independent diagnostic ultrasound examinations requiring independent judgment and initiative in the utilization of ultrasonic equipment for diagnostic ultrasound examinations on "high-risk obstetrical" patients.
  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment, and exams to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within the scope of practice.
  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in patient status as appropriate
  • Prepares equipment and supplies.
  • Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters.
