The Diagnostic & Data Systems Engineer leads the development and implementation of vehicle diagnostic strategies, leveraging connected vehicle data to ensure reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction in the era of electrification and automation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with vehicle electrical systems, automotive diagnostics, or data analytics.
  • Strong learning agility, adaptability, and systems thinking.
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate within cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with OBD systems and related regulations.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., SQL).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of quality documents (DFMEA, LFMA, boundary diagrams) in diagnostics.
  • Experience with electrical module design, in-vehicle networking (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet), and power distribution.
  • Familiarity with Ford-specific diagnostic tools and platforms (e.g., Vanguard/VSCS).
  • Experience with connected vehicles, telematics, and cloud-based data architectures.
  • Proficiency in programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++) for data processing and diagnostic tool development.
  • Electrical Design & Release (D\&R) and electrical testing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement diagnostic strategies and architectures for vehicle systems, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Apply systems engineering principles to design, allocate, and validate diagnostic features and data collection points.
  • Create diagnostic specifications, data flow diagrams, and troubleshooting guides for complex vehicle functions.
  • Review and improve diagnostic designs for cost, quality, and serviceability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to integrate advanced diagnostic technologies and analytics tools.
  • Analyze vehicle data to identify diagnostic gaps, optimize algorithms, and drive quality improvements.
  • Manage diagnostic issue triage, including DTCs, throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Develop and validate OBD monitors and diagnostic communication protocols (e.g., UDS, OBD-II, CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
  • Communicate diagnostic insights and resolutions to diverse audiences.
