Fairview Hospital’s Dialysis Unit cares for patients experiencing kidney failure, including individuals with diabetes, hypertension, COPD, post-surgical needs, or those who are non-compliant with outpatient visits. Patients treated in this unit are often acutely ill and require close monitoring and intensive care. As a Dialysis Technician I, you will provide Intermittent Hemodialysis (IHD) care to patients while working in the immediate presence and under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Dialysis services are provided to patients across all areas of the hospital using both hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) modalities. At times you may work within the dialysis center caring for less critical patients, while at other times you will provide treatment to patients in the ICU who require a higher level of care. This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working various 8-hour shifts between 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. with Saturday requirements. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Clarify any prescribed dialysis care regimen for a patient when the technician believes that the regimen is inaccurate. Consult with an appropriate licensed practitioner to clarify the prescribed dialysis care regimen. Notify the practitioner when the technician decides not to follow the prescribed dialysis care regimen or direction. Document that the practitioner was notified of the decision not to follow the direction or the prescribed dialysis care regimen, taking any action necessary to assure the safety of the patient. Administer medications when delegated by a registered nurse or a licensed physician as outlined by the Ohio Revised Code). Share responsibility with the technologist team in preparation of water, dialysate and perform other technical duties. Communicate with the water company when problems arise and arrange for the disinfections of the water rooms. Assist with basic equipment usage issues and troubleshooting. Manage doping Potassium in acid concentrate jugs and refills jugs with needed dialysis solutions. Conduct 5S zone responsibilities. Teach and support other employees and personnel. Assist with research projects. Monitor and chart the central water system.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certified Dialysis Technician (CDT) through the state of Ohio with no Board Actions
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • One year of prior Intermittent Hemodialysis (IHD) experience

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)
  • Prior Dialysis experience
  • ICU experience
  • Acute care or Med/Surg experience
