The Impact You’ll Make in this Role The Diamond 5-Axis Machinist is responsible for leading the diamond machining department, overseeing the 5-Axis Diamond machining process, and ensuring the smooth operation of the department. This role involves providing guidance and support and ensuring that all projects are completed efficiently and on time as well as ordering diamonds and supporting supplies needed for no delays in the diamond 5-Axis process. This position reports to the Plant Supervisor. Heavy collaboration between this role and the Process Engineer will be necessary for complete success of this operation. As a Diamond 5-Axis Milling Machinist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by: Ensure all safety/health/environmental practices are followed and issues are reported immediately. Actively participate, support, and promote daily 5S efforts. Develop and update Lean standard work for all Diamond Machining jobs. Identify and assist with the scheduling of concurrent work throughout the Diamond Machining area, communicating with counterparts from dayside to nightside and vice versa. Regular communication with our business partners to ensure we are meeting production demands. Maximize chargeable hours, keeping machine operational is a primary responsibility. Intense focus on continuous improvement and evaluating statistics to improve process reliability. Identify and assist with overtime needs in the diamond machining area. Attend and participate in daily and/or weekly tier meetings regarding diamond machining. Setting up diamond cutting tools and other associated equipment to produce diamond machined parts. Performing test-cuts to determine machine offsets and other process parameters. Doing metrology and inspections as part of the set-up work and determining whether machine parts meet specifications. Providing input and feedback daily to the engineering staff regarding plans for or results of machining projects. Performing minor maintenance tasks and troubleshooting of diamond machining equipment. Strong abilities with Siemens Nx CAD/CAM as well as able to Write, modify, and optimize CNC programs using G-code, Macro and CAM software. Complete any added tasks assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements

  • Have or pursuing a two-year degree or higher in Machine Tool Technology (or equivalent) from an accredited institution or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
  • One (1) year of combined precision machining experience on CNC lathes and/or mills including programming and editing G&M code CNC part programs (combination of academic and/or industrial experience) in a private, public, government or military environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the diamond machine department: - Provide guidance to scheduled diamond machining projects. - Ensure that all Diamond machining processes are correct and efficient as well as monitor productivity and quality standards within the department to ensure success rate is high with supplied Diamond machining products to our internal partners. - Collaborate with Menominee and other affected sites to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of projects.
  • Work cooperatively with the plant Process Engineer: - Ensure processes are resolved quickly to ensure top level quality. - Provide clear instructions and guidelines for each assigned task, documenting the processes for future training opportunities. - Monitor progress and provide necessary reporting to internal customers as well as the local plant.
  • Ensure all required inspection is performed and documented to the Diamond machining group standard(s). - Communicate and report non-conforming parts. - Provide inspection reporting as needed. - Document the inspection process and train other machinists, as necessary.
