About The Position

Overview: Builds or repairs dies, jigs, measurement tools and machining fixtures. Operates machine shop tools such as air drills, pencil grinder, ninety degree grinder, fender grinder and machine shop equipment such as lathe, drill press and EDM machine.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Works with pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment and their safety procedures.
  • Sets up and repairs tool and dies to specification.
  • Possesses a strong mathematical background to figure calculations when performing repairs and tool building.
  • Reads and understands measurement devices and gages.
  • Performs visual inspection of current situation and make recommendation for countermeasure and repair.
  • Analyzes the current situation and makes Quality suggestions to improve efficiency, Quality and production.
  • Works conscientiously to improve Quality within the department and throughout MPP.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Exercises effective team communications through teamwork and assisting other Associates as needed.
  • Possesses all other duties as assigned.
  • May work any shift, irregular hours and work overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Plans the set up and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds.
  • Uses precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and depth micrometers and gage tools like height gages, feeler gages, and pin gages.
  • Performs required visual and precision measuring inspections before, during and after machining.
  • Uses hand tools such as miscellaneous grinders, air tools, and other tools to work on dies.
  • Sets up and repairs tools and dies to specification.
  • Ensures work is properly done and mold is in operable condition before its release to Die Cast.
  • Carefully distinguishes minute differences in materials, machine adjustments, and repair techniques.
  • Works efficiently and is self directed requiring little supervision to successfully complete projects.
  • Keeps working area cleaned, organized and picked up (COP).
  • Keeps good team communications and team work, assisting others as necessary.
  • May be required to lift in excess of 45 lbs. repetitively.
  • Works with pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment and their safety procedures.

  • Possesses a strong mathematical background to figure calculations when performing repairs and tool building.

  • Occasionally works on components radiating temperatures in excess of 500 degrees F safely.
  • Endures strenuous climbing, kneeling, standing, pushing, carrying, and bending. May be required to lay in awkward positions and tight quarters to make repairs infrequently.
  • Tolerates excessive noise, heat, smoke, and odor periodically.
  • May work any shift, irregular hours and work overtime.
