Job SummaryJoin a talented group of more than 80 Morrison Healthcare dietitians at the University of Virginia Health System in beautiful Charlottesville, Virginia. At this level one trauma center, dietitians play an integral role on multidisciplinary teams in many specialty areas, both in the 675 bed inpatient setting, as well as in over 35 outpatient clinics. RDs participate in research and quality improvement projects, host dietetic interns, and are supported in pursuing leadership and community service experiences. Continuing education opportunities are plentiful from within the accomplished nutrition team and from the health system which values ongoing training and education. This PRN role is ideal for an experienced RD seeking flexibility and variety in clinical practice. The dietitian provides coverage across adult inpatient teams, including acute care, nutrition support, and transplant services, supporting staffing needs for vacations, holidays, leaves, and transitions.Coverage may involve working with one patient population for several days or supporting multiple teams within a single shift. The RD collaborates closely with nursing, licensed independent practitioners, therapies, case management, and social work to provide coordinated, patient-centered care.Experience in nutrition support management preferred .Position Type: PRNSchedule: Flexible weekday schedule within standard business hours [Monday-Friday 8AM-4:30PM] depending on staffing needs. Opportunities for weekend coverage are available for those interested. Requires on-site presence.

Requirements

  • Credential as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience providing medical nutrition therapy to a variety of clinical conditions. Enteral/parenteral nutrition management, preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Possess the necessary skills to effectively utilize Microsoft office applications, electronic medical record (Epic) & diet office systems, and nutrient analysis programming.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialty Certification as a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), or willingness to pursue, preferred
  • Experience in nutrition support management preferred

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based medical nutrition therapy to adult patients (18+) including comprehensive nutrition assessments, individualized diet modifications, and patient-focused nutrition education.
  • Independently advocate and manage enteral nutrition, including calorie goals, macronutrient adjustments, and fluid management.
  • Partner effectively with LIPs, offering confident and proactive recommendations to optimize clinical outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation within UVA's integrated electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Participate in research, quality improvement initiatives, case reviews, and internal education.
  • Foster a supportive, collaborative team culture that values autonomy, flexibility, and evidence-based practice.
  • Adhere to guidelines in the Company Diet Manual and Clinical Nutrition Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accrediting agency regulations, including HIPAA and patient rights policies
