About The Position

At Altera, we are pioneering the future of programmable logic and accelerating innovation across data centers, communications, AI, and embedded markets. As a Digital Design Intern, you will join a high-performing silicon engineering team and gain hands-on experience contributing to the development of next-generation FPGA devices. In this role, you will collaborate with experienced engineers on digital logic design, simulation, and verification activities supporting complex FPGA architectures. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world silicon development while learning industry-standard design methodologies, tools, and workflows.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2+ months of experience or coursework in Digital Design, including topics such as combinational logic, sequential logic, and finite state machines.
  • 2+ months of experience working in a collaborative team or academic project environment involving engineering design or problem-solving.
  • Applicants must be eligible for any required U.S. export authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or project experience involving RTL design and simulation.
  • Exposure to FPGA development tools or FPGA-based lab projects.
  • Familiarity with digital verification concepts or testbench development.
  • Basic scripting knowledge in Python, TCL, or similar languages.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and implementation of digital logic modules using hardware description languages such as Verilog or SystemVerilog.
  • Support simulation, debugging, and functional validation of digital blocks using industry-standard EDA tools.
  • Contribute to testbench development and verification activities to validate RTL functionality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams including architecture, design verification, and validation.
  • Help analyze design results, debug functional issues, and document findings.
  • Participate in code reviews and design discussions with senior engineers to learn best practices in RTL development.
  • Support documentation of design specifications, test plans, and validation results.
