About The Position

The Digital Engagement Specialist supports the Catawba Nation’s digital presence with a primary focus on social media platforms, the Nation’s intranet, and digital portals. This role is responsible for creating, publishing, and managing engaging digital content that keeps citizens and employees informed, connected, and engaged, while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with the Nation’s values, culture, and communication standards. The Digital Engagement Specialist reports to the Communications Director.

Requirements

  • One to two (1-2) years’ experience in digital engagement including knowledge of and social media marketing; experience and knowledge of graphic design software such as Canva and Adobe Suite (samples may be required).
  • High School Degree or GED required.
  • Possess a clean, valid state Driver’s License and be insurable under the Tribe’s insurance policy.
  • Ability to attend training and classes as required.
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends as needed.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, diplomacy, and sound judgment when considering internal and external communications.
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and verbal communication skills (writing samples may be requested).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in photography, videography, and/or graphic design (samples may be requested).
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and a courteous, professional demeanor with the public.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Communications, Digital Marketing, or a related field preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated while producing high-quality content representing the Catawba Nation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience creating and managing social media content across platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, and LinkedIn.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Catawba Nation’s official social media channels, ensuring timely, accurate, and engaging content that reflects the Nation’s values, priorities, and voice.
  • Develop creative content for distribution to departments, external partners, and the tribal community.
  • Design and deploy marketing and communications campaigns for CIN divisions, departments, and entities.
  • Create, schedule, publish, and monitor social media content across multiple platforms, including written posts, graphics, and short-form video, and respond appropriately to engagement on all CIN pages.
  • Create and/or support digital and print newsletters for the Catawba Nation.
  • Provide training to Catawba Nation and CIN entity staff, volunteers, and interns on social media best practices and photo/video editing applications.
  • Support the management and day-to-day upkeep of the Nation’s intranet and citizen digital portal, including posting updates, announcements, leadership messages, and community notices.
  • Assist with basic photo and video capture and editing for social media and intranet use.
  • Review analytics and performance data to extract actionable insights that inform content distribution and engagement strategies.
  • Develop creative strategies to engage new and emerging audiences across digital channels, with an emphasis on social media.
  • Support digital programming and event-related efforts through strategic planning, digital engagement execution, and training.
  • Ensure all content aligns with established branding guidelines, accessibility standards, and cultural considerations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
