About The Position

Coordinate printing assignments and responsibilities.  Operate high-speed digital printing equipment.    Follow all operational, safety and quality control procedures under the direction of the Digital Print Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in digital printing or production printing
  • Strong working knowledge of digital press operations
  • Ability to read and interpret job tickets and print specifications
  • Basic computer skills (RIP software, job tracking systems, email)
  • Hands-on leadership style
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
  • Clear communication and attention to detail
  • Mechanical aptitude

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate a servant-minded leadership style and continuously solicit ideas/needs of all Team-members in order to foster an environment of maximum organizational and individual success. Make recommendations to department manager for necessary resources in order to successfully fulfill the mission of the department.
  • Maintain the highest possible quality standards for all production jobs, through the use of the integrated quality control procedure.    Ensure that quality control is maintained by the shift production leaders at all times.   Immediately communicate all significant issues relating to quality to the department manager.   Take action to correct and prevent such issues.
  • Oversee the successful execution of the Laser Working Schedule priority list by ensuring that jobs are run in the correct order, forms are ordered and delivered and print files are assigned to printers in a timely manner.
  • Monitor all aspects of production throughout the shift in order to achieve production standards on a daily basis. Make continual observations and recommendations to increase production. Immediately communicate all significant delays and production barriers to the department manager as well as upstream and downstream partners.  Take actions to alleviate such delays.
  • Partner and coordinate with the department’s Maintenance Team in order to maximize up-time and facilitate all repair and preventative-maintenance activities necessary to achieve production schedule goals on a daily basis.
  • Be accountable for the performance and the behavior of all operators and material handlers working on the shift, at all times.    Ensure that breaks and lunches are taken in accordance with printer coverage objectives, so that all printers can be kept running during these times.
  • Review available reports and metrics measuring organizational and individual efficiency/productivity in order to identify areas requiring improvement and recommend appropriate corrective action.
  • Ensure all personnel within the department are following safety procedures.  Correct any safety problems and immediately communicate any continuous safety questions or problems to the department manager.
  • Record all injuries in the Injury Report Form as soon as an injury occurs.  Deliver the reports immediately to the department manager.  Follow all procedures regarding injury and safety.   Report all issues and injuries to the department manager.
  • Train and evaluate new employees in a timely fashion, through the use of the official training guidelines.
  • Perform employee performance evaluations for all employees in your department in a timely and professional manner.  Monitor each employee’s performance throughout the year, taking actions and making recommendations to constantly improve each employee’s performance.   Report all issues regarding staff performance to the department manager.
  • Receive vacation and leave-of-absence requests from employees, making recommendations to the department manager.
  • Handle employee problems in a professional manner.   Explain and enforce company policies.   Refer problems to the department manager, or if applicable, the human resources department.
  • Ensure proper staffing throughout the day.   Communicate staffing needs with other department supervisors and the department manager as they occur.  Ensure that all positions are covered during vacations and absences by soliciting overtime availability to other supervisors and staff.
  • Schedule ample staff to cover posted weekend overtime, as directed by the department manager.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of department, including supplies, safety items and cleanliness.
  • Conduct bi-weekly staff meetings and include each staff member.   Allow approximately 15 minutes for this meeting, and discuss each important topic that is deemed germane.
  • Conduct shift turnover sessions with incoming/outgoing supervisors daily.   Review the production schedule, overtime needs, staffing issues, equipment status, material defects, material watch list items, hold jobs, hot jobs waiting on approval, special setups, programming errors, quality alert notices, etc.     Complete the shift turnover log daily.
  • Prepare the department for the next shift, including materials, supplies, cleanliness and machine setups.
  • Ensure material handlers are working efficiently, as prescribed by the Kanban system.    Ensure that no more than 1input roll per machine is present in the room at any given time.
  • Report production errors through the use of the Internal quality alert notice document, and distribute to all area managers as directed.
  • Comply with company rules and regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data.
  • Implement a commitment to quality philosophy and recommend methods and procedures to reduce cost and/or improve operating efficiency of the department to the department manager.
  • Keep department manager informed of activities and situations that will impact the achievement of corporate or department goals and objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as required to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and company
