About The Position

The Direct Care Worker supports individuals with developmental disabilities in a group home setting, ensuring their health, safety, and overall quality of life. This role provides hands-on assistance with personal care, daily living activities, and health-related needs under the direction of licensed nursing staff. Direct Care Workers foster a supportive, respectful environment that promotes independence, skill-building, and community participation while maintaining compliance with agency, state, and federal standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; relevant training or certification (e.g., CNA, HHA, DSP) preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, especially in a residential or group home setting, is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with residents.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to transport residents.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, and mobility assistance.
  • Monitor residents’ health, behavior, and overall well-being; promptly report concerns to supervisors.
  • Administer prescribed oral medications and provide basic health-related support such as changing dressings or checking vital signs, following established care plans.
  • Offer companionship, conversation, and engagement in recreational, educational, and social activities.
  • Support residents in learning and practicing life skills that encourage independence.
  • Prepare and serve meals according to residents’ dietary needs and preferences.
  • Assist with household upkeep, including laundry, cleaning, and organization, to maintain a safe, comfortable living space.
  • Accompany residents to medical appointments, community outings, or recreational activities, providing transportation and support as needed.
  • Accurately document care provided, changes in condition, and daily activities in compliance with agency policies.
  • Collaborate with families, healthcare professionals, and team members to ensure coordinated, person-centered care.
  • Follow all safety protocols, care plans, and state licensing requirements for group home operations.
