About The Position

The Directional Drill Locator is responsible for operating locating equipment to guide the directional drill operator during underground telecom installations. This role ensures accurate bore path tracking, safe utility avoidance, and proper installation depth for fiber optic conduit and cable.

Requirements

• 2+ years of directional drilling locating experience (telecom preferred)
• Experience with fiber optic underground installations
• Strong understanding of utility locating practices and damage prevention
• Ability to read construction prints and bore profiles
• Strong communication skills and teamwork mindset
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs
• Valid driver’s license required

Responsibilities

• Operate HDD locating systems (Digitrak, Subsite, or similar)
• Track and guide the drill head to maintain proper depth and alignment
• Read and interpret bore plans, construction drawings, and utility locates
• Communicate continuously with the drill operator to ensure safe and accurate drilling
• Identify and avoid existing underground utilities
• Monitor drill fluid levels and bore conditions
• Assist with jobsite setup and cleanup
• Maintain daily production reports and documentation
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards
