About The Position

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Director, Academic Partnerships to lead and enhance our partnerships across both hospital operations and outpatient specialty clinics. The primary role as a system leader is to build and maintain a system wide structure and process of academic programs and partnerships that create a strategic workforce pipeline for Emory Healthcare (EHC), in partnership with the VP Academic Integration and Partnerships and other key leaders. An essential core element is the building of positive relationships with select colleges and universities to develop programs and processes to support strategic plan. Major responsibilities include the management, assessment, design, implementation and evaluation of successful student programs, both undergraduate and graduate, to include but not limited to student affiliations, scholar's programs, and advanced practice. The Corporate Director collaborates with Talent Acquisition, Workforce Optimization, Nursing and Leaders to ensure maximizing of recruitment opportunities. Primary duties and responsibilities: Academic Partnership Strategy 1. Assesses, develops, and manages academic affiliations with colleges, universities, high schools, and training programs to support workforce pipeline and organizational strategy. 2. Serves as primary liaison to academic partners; maintains ongoing communication to address needs, opportunities, and performance. 3. Represents the organization through academic engagement forums (e.g., advisory councils, Dean meetings, career events, student/faculty engagement activities). 4. Leads systemwide coordination of student clinical placements across facilities, ensuring alignment with workforce demand, preceptor capacity, and equitable distribution. 5. Oversees and standardizes student affiliation processes, policies, and procedures to streamline clinical rotation requests and ensure consistency across the system. 6. Partners with Legal to manage affiliation agreements and contracts in compliance with state, federal, and organizational requirements. 7. Collaborates with facility leaders to promote high-quality student experiences and leverage clinical education as a recruitment strategy. 8. Develops and advances innovative academic-practice models (e.g., Dedicated Education Units, apprenticeships, externships, internships, and other pipeline programs). 9. Works with Talent Acquisition, workforce planning, and operational leaders to maximize student-to-employee conversion and recruitment outcomes. Scholars Program 1. Collaborates with stakeholders to develop and implement scholars and scholarship programs that support priority recruitment needs of EHC. 2. Directs all management and programmatic aspects of the program including development and management of the application review process, and management of the interviewing process for applicants. 3. Builds marketing plan for program in collaboration with marketing department and/or academic institution(s). 4. Monitors established scholars and funds/payments to recipients and academic institution(s). 5. Works with finance to ensure appropriate monitoring of scholar's payments and adherence to contractual agreements. 6. Tracks and reports program key metrics. Operational Integration & Performance Management 1. Identifies opportunities to standardize and integrate academic partnership operations across hospitals and ambulatory settings. 2. Develops and monitors operational and financial performance metrics related to academic partnerships. 3. Collaborates with HR, analytics, and academic partners to build dashboards and reporting structures tracking pipeline outcomes, placement capacity, conversion rates, retention, and return on investment (ROI). Regulatory & Compliance Oversight 1. Ensures academic partnership activities comply with accreditation standards, clinical education requirements, contractual agreements, and organizational policies. Collaboration & Communication 1. Partners with hospital and clinic leadership, academic institutions, and system departments to ensure coordinated and integrated services. 2. Maintains clear communication with stakeholders regarding strategy, operations, and impact of academic partnership initiatives. Additional Duties as Assigned.

Requirements

  • Must hold either a Master's Degree in Nursing or Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from accredited nursing schools with a Master's Degree in Nursing Leadership. Business Administration or Health Administration or related field required.
  • Minimum of 7-10 total years of experience as Registered Nurses; includes 5 years of progressive leadership.
  • Experience in organizational strategic planning with the alignment of business and to department goals/structure required.
  • The ability to motivate and influence senior leadership, stakeholders, and peer groups required.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in State of Georgia or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Georgia under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and relationship building; a knowledge of the health care and academic environment; leadership that includes such skills as successfully implementing and managing a change process - ability to use systems thinking- and inspire, coach others to be successful; model the way for professional practice; professionalism and teamwork/collaboration for self/department; and possess necessary business skills to manage human and material resources.
  • Superior problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Must be a continuous learner who understands health care financing; strategy and operations for running a business unit(s); and effectively employ data and technology to support work processes and make decisions.
  • Knowledge of risk management and various accreditation/regulations/licensing requirements assuring that these are upheld while advancing industry standards through the achievement of goals by effective management and measurement of outcomes.
  • Ability to work in a matrixed, large system environment and with diverse academic institutions across the state.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 years' experience with at least 5 years in a management position
  • National certification in nursing administration or clinical specialty preferred
  • Experience in academic affairs preferred.
