Job Details Cleveland Clinic's Diagnostic Institute is currently seeking an experienced Physician Assistant or Certified Nurse Practitioner for a full time Director Advanced Practice Provider. The Diagnostics Institute APP Director provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) across Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging services. This role ensures safe, high‑quality procedural, consultative, and longitudinal care delivered by APPs within IR suites, imaging centers, inpatient services, remote, telehealth teams and regional hospitals. The Director oversees workforce planning, competency development, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary collaboration to support exceptional patient care, streamlined workflows, and alignment with Diagnostic Institute business and transformation goals. The ideal candidate for the Diagnostics APP Director role is a seasoned, highly skilled advanced practice leader who demonstrates clinical excellence, operational acumen, and the ability to build strong interdisciplinary partnerships within a complex imaging environment. They are an advocate for APP practice, a collaborator to physicians, and a strategic thinker capable of elevating the quality, safety, and efficiency of patient care across both Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology. Reporting to the Vice President, Advanced Practice Providers, leads the Advanced Practice Providers for multiple specialties or service lines within the Institute, Hospital or Sub-market. May hold other positions within the organization simultaneously, serving in multiple leadership roles. Responsible for team performance and attainment of OKRs. Coordinates efforts with leadership (clinical and administrative) to ensure staffing and patient standard of care.

Requirements

Graduate of an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant Program, or Graduate of an accredited APRN program.
English, written and spoken.
Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant State License.
Must have prescriptive authority or eligible to apply for licensure to prescribe from the State Medical Board within 6 months of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required based on assigned department.
Strong analytical skills to interpret data and plan accordingly.
Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to adjust for a diverse audience.

Minimum of five years’ experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.
Minimum of two years’ management experience.
Normal vision and hearing range (can be corrected) to view documentation, presentations and communicate with other caregivers and properly examine, evaluate and communicate with patients.
Ability to use a computer, phone and other technology to document patient records, use software to develop reporting and data analysis.
Ability to travel regionally and walk to in person meetings.
Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Responsibilities

Provides leadership for all APP practice within Interventional Radiology and Diagnostics including procedural and consultative services.
Establishes strategic goals that support patient access, throughput, safety, and continuous improvement within Imaging and Diagnostic operations.
Ensures consistent standards of practice across all locations and collaborates with imaging leadership to support institutional priorities.
Supervises clinical practice standards for APPs performing pre‑procedural evaluations, post‑procedural care, consults, follow‑ups, and diagnostic workflows.
Partners with IR physicians, radiologists, and nursing leadership to maintain procedure-specific algorithms, clinical pathways, and escalation processes.
Ensures readiness and competency for APP involvement in IR procedures, sedation models (if applicable), and management of moderate to high‑acuity patient populations.
Oversees APP participation in inpatient consults, care coordination, and transitions of care related to imaging or IR interventions.
Oversees APP participation in telehealth, remote and Florida based operations and practices
Oversees APP staffing and coverage models for IR suites, ambulatory imaging centers, inpatient services, entirely remote, telehealth and Florida based practices
Leads recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluations of all IR/Diagnostics APPs.
Develops workflows to ensure adequate procedural coverage, efficient patient throughput, and appropriate distribution of clinical responsibilities among APPs.
Supports retention through professional development, mentorship, and proactive workload management.
Designs competency frameworks specific to IR procedures (e.g., paracentesis, thoracentesis, line placement depending on scope), clinical triage, and imaging-based patient evaluation.
Implements structured onboarding plans for Diagnostics & IR APPs, including simulation, shadowing, and procedure-specific skill development.
Ensures ongoing training in imaging interpretation relevant to APP scope, radiation safety, and procedural readiness.
Encourages advanced certifications, CME participation, and specialty-specific learning opportunities.
Leads quality initiatives targeting IR patient safety, procedural outcomes, complication reduction, and imaging‑related workflow optimization.
Ensures compliance with Joint Commission standards, radiation safety policies, moderate sedation requirements (if applicable), and institutional credentialing expectations.
Investigates clinical concerns or safety events involving APPs and coordinates improvement or remediation plans.
Ensures compliance with Joint Commissions, billing and practice standards with all Ohio and Florida based practices
Serves as the primary liaison between IR/Diagnostic APPs and physicians, nursing, technologists, schedulers, and administrative leadership.
Represents APP interests on committees related to IR operations, imaging efficiency, procedural safety, access, and patient experience.
Facilitates strong communication between inpatient teams, outpatient imaging centers, IR suites, and referring providers.
Collaborates with imaging and IR and Diagnostic leadership to develop staffing budgets, productivity standards, and APP utilization models.
Evaluates workflow bottlenecks and leads initiatives that improve procedural throughput and access to IR services.
Supports revenue cycle optimization through appropriate documentation, coding, and efficient scheduling workflows.
Identifies opportunities to expand APP roles within IR and Diagnostics, such as pre‑procedure clinics, post‑procedure follow‑up programs, or triage consult pathways.
Leads development of new service lines, expanded procedural APP roles, and innovative models that enhance patient access to IR care.
Supports research, data collection, and scholarly activity related to imaging‑based care and procedural medicine
Leads managers on daily operations and performance expectations.
Partners with administration and a multi-disciplinary clinical team to ensure patient access and fill rates in accordance with enterprise metrics.
Drives strategy for business service lines to align with enterprise goals.
Sets objectives and key results for APP management to align with institute, hospital, or sub-market with enterprise initiatives.
Monitors performance and productivity levels to ensure efficiency objectives to include staffing design for growth.
Embraces technical and innovative advances for future planning.
Oversees and approves educational and development initiatives.
Develops and approves policies, procedures and guidelines.
Oversees compliance with safety protocols.
Drives SQPE initiatives and continuous improvement efforts to strengthen high reliability standards.

Fulfills the role of an APRN or PA providing clinical practice in accordance with privileges granted and as appropriate for certification and licensure.
