About The Position

Lionsgate has an immediate opening for a Director, Business & Legal Affairs in its Acquisitions and Co-Productions team which will report to the EVP, Business & Legal Affairs. Responsibilities Negotiate and draft acquisition, co-production, co-finance, output and first-look agreements for distribution by Lionsgate and related distribution labels for feature film, television and digital content, as well as all related supplemental agreements. Review, analyze and comment on rights agreements, participation statements, security agreements, talent agreements, credit statements, marketing materials, legal clearances, music licenses, billing blocks, chain of title and all other delivery documentation in connection with Lionsgate’s library of film and television properties. Interact and advise strategic business and planning teams, participations, marketing, delivery and rights management to facilitate the acquisition process as well as monitor and resolve any downstream issues once agreements are finalized. Analyze legal risks and develop solutions to mitigate potential challenges. Performing other day-to-day business affairs-related and legal tasks as needed and assigned by the department head. Qualifications and Skills Extensive knowledge of entertainment and intellectual property law, with an in-depth understanding of delivery, film-financing, distribution models and the disposition of gross receipts (e.g., waterfalls), and have expertise in reading, drafting and analyzing contracts. Strong and effective negotiating ability, excellent drafting skills and business judgement. The ability to reason, apply logic, make autonomous decisions and work with strict deadlines and heavy volume all while managing to make accurate legal assessments. Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams. Have excellent interpersonal, communication and computer skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment. J.D. and approximately 4 -7 years of relevant in-house or law firm experience are required. California Bar membership is required.
