Capital One’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) organization has responsibility for helping the overall organization identify, manage, and mitigate key risks that may keep the company from achieving its strategic objectives. We are currently seeking a Director to join the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) organization to lead the Company’s Risk Appetite Framework, including methodology design, process execution, risk metrics strategy, and technology enablement. The Director will have the opportunity to apply risk management and analytical skills to some of our highest profile Risk Management projects, including implementing solutions to ensure Capital One’s continued stability and success. This includes bringing unique perspectives and experiences to help us be rigorous, curious, and creative, as well as enabling our organizations to maintain a sustainable and holistic risk profile in order to deliver superior products while also protecting our customers. Additionally, this role is expected to provide oversight and effective challenge across all risk categories (e.g. financial and non-financial risk) and develop key governance analysis and reporting for Senior Management and the Board of Directors. This leader must be able to effectively communicate and influence partners across the company and across multiple levels of the organization. Strong problem solving and analytical skills, attention to detail, process/project management capability, and results driven competencies are essential to succeeding in this role. This individual should feel comfortable working with quantitative and qualitative information and can move from the “gray” area to grounded recommendation in an organized and transparent manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
  • At least 4 years of Financial Services experience
  • At least 6 years of Risk Management experience
  • At least 2 years of People Management experience

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree
  • 8+ years of Financial Services risk management experience
  • 7+ years of experience in Project or Process Management
  • 5+ years of internal strategy or management consulting experience leading cross functional financial services projects and programs
  • 5+ years of people management experience

Responsibilities

  • Manage and own the enterprise Risk Appetite Framework and risk metric program
  • Execute and enhance Risk Appetite and risk metric strategies, methodologies, governance, and reporting elements
  • Synthesize and elevate information to executive levels
  • Leverage data, metrics, and analysis to create a comprehensive monitoring approach to proactively identify risks and trends
  • Cultivate data sources to feed metrics/reporting; clearly define intent/requirements for creation and ongoing enhancements of an enterprise risk metric system of record
  • Perform and support detailed validation data analysis to include trending, problem identification, and development/completion of remediation plans
  • Consult on analysis and reporting outcomes to observe trends and provide insights on changes to the Company’s risk environments
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders and leaders across multiple organizations to achieve objectives
  • Play a key role in contributing to the effective design and delivery of our risk management framework
  • Demonstrate problem-solving and analysis skills with attention to detail
  • Demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, problem solving and influencing skills across various levels of the organization
  • Actively support internal and external audits and exams
  • Stay abreast of the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to Capital One
  • Balance multiple priorities to help drive business value and support team objectives, while managing tasks and activities related to risk management initiatives in a well-managed capacity
  • Lead a team of professionals to advise and consult key stakeholders to drive effective risk identification, assessment, and disposition.
  • Set direction, manage expectations, and lead cross-functional teams
  • Foster an environment of trust, collaboration & belonging while leading a team of risk managers
