We are looking for a highly technical, hands-on Director of IT Infrastructure to own and evolve our Microsoft Azure platform that powers our e-commerce, mobile, and internal systems. This is not a traditional IT role. This leader will be directly responsible for designing, building, and operating a modern cloud infrastructure that supports high-traffic digital experiences and mission-critical services. You will partner closely with Engineering, Product, and Data teams to ensure our Azure environment is: highly available and scalable  observable and debuggable secure and compliant  cost-efficient and performant  You should be equally comfortable with whiteboarding architecture, debugging production issues, and reviewing infrastructure as code.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud engineering, or platform engineering
  • Deep, hands-on expertise in Microsoft Azure (this is a must-have)
  • Proven experience designing and operating production systems using:
  • App Services and Function Apps
  • Azure networking (Front Door, Application Gateway, VNets, DNS)
  • Application Insights and observability tooling
  • Key Vault and secure secret management
  • Strong experience supportingNode.js / API-driven architectures
  • Experience managing high-traffic, customer-facing platforms (e-commerce preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM, etc.)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, networking, and application layers
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Demonstrated ability to own and resolve production incidents
  • Strong understanding of scalability, resiliency, and distributed systems

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture, performance, and reliability of our Azure environment
  • Design and operate scalable infrastructure using:
  • App Services (primary hosting for Node.js APIs and microservices)
  • Azure Function Apps
  • Storage Accounts (including static web hosting for React applications)
  • Application Insights (monitoring, logging, and observability)
  • Key Vault (secrets and credential management)
  • Front Door and Application Gateway (traffic routing, WAF, and edge delivery)
  • Azure DNS
  • Establish best practices for scaling, failover, and regional resiliency
  • Actively contribute to infrastructure design, troubleshooting, and optimization
  • Review and guide infrastructure as code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM, etc.)
  • Partner with engineering teams to improve application performance and reliability
  • Lead root cause analysis for production incidents and drive permanent fixes
  • Build and improve deployment strategies, including CI/CD pipelines
  • Own observability strategy using Application Insights and logging platforms
  • Define and implement alerting, dashboards, and SLIs/SLOs
  • Ensure all services are instrumented for deep debugging and tracing
  • Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks
  • Architect and manage traffic routing using Front Door and Application Gateway
  • Optimize global performance, availability, and failover strategies
  • Own DNS strategy, domain management, and cutover planning
  • Troubleshoot complex networking and connectivity issues
  • Continuously monitor and optimize Azure spend
  • Implement right-sizing, scaling strategies, and cost governance practices
  • Balance performance, reliability, and cost in all infrastructure decisions
  • Lead and mentor a small, high-impact infrastructure team
  • Set a high bar for technical excellence and ownership
  • Build a culture of accountability, urgency, and continuous improvement
