The Fraud, Credit Bust Out (CBO), Banking Product & Payments Risk Organization is a global team of risk officers, data scientists, and product managers that are building innovative solutions across AMEX's credit, banking, and payment solution portfolios. The banking vertical owns the end-to-end deposit & fraud risk strategy for AMEX's digital banking portfolio. The Director of Banking Product Business Operations will support the Head of Banking Fraud in ensuring adherence with enterprise-wide policies on risk management. The director will be responsible for executing new programs that govern, monitor and improve the Banking group's extensive strategy execution controls, providing thematic analysis on operational issues associated with fraud processes, creating and maintaining Banking RCSAs.

  • Lead a team of managers and analysts to execute against enterprise policies and governance plans for Banking Portfolio.
  • Implement and annually refresh RCSA program.
  • Calculate and monitor risk appetite framework (RAF) metrics for Bank portfolio, escalate as appropriate, partner with strategy teams to identify root causes, full expected exposures, and document corresponding action plans.
  • Support timely updates of documentation and operational controls as new customer features and fraud capabilities are introduced.
  • Conduct controls testing in accordance with Internal Controls Policy.
  • Conduct risk assessments for Bank portfolio under current 1st Line of Defense methodology, lead transformation of risk assessment to 2nd Line of Defense methodology.
  • Execute multiple compliance and regulatory programs, such as AML/BSA SARs referrals, elder fraud abuse detection, scams detection, etc.
  • Partner with functional experts and participate in exams, audits, and any ad hoc governance requests.
  • Ensure the systems that fraud org risk have in place to track and identify issues and fraud events are satisfactory within the risk framework established by Issues and Events Policy.
  • Ensure consistent documentation in standard operating procedures, reporting, etc. for the Banking portfolio.
  • Provide insights to banking and fraud leadership on process risk issues and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide thought leadership on control design, control effectiveness monitoring, and process governance to direct reports.
  • Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities.
  • Experience in process governance, with a track record of establishing or implementing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards.
  • GSIB-RCSA program experience preferred.
  • Experience with risk control design, testing, and effectiveness and operational monitoring.
  • Experience managing operational risk events.
  • Familiarity and subject matter expertise in CBO for Deposit and non-Lend product risk, Victim Fraud Risk, and Operational Excellence.
  • Positive 'roll-up your sleeves' attitude, a proactive mentality, and a passion to win required.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact and obtain buy-in from senior BU/tech counterparts.
  • Strong internal partner management skills with proven ability to influence & negotiate.
  • Strategic, analytical, problem-solving mindset; ability to problem solve and make decisions or drive to fast resolution.
  • Critical thinker with the ability to continuously evolve strategy based on data and analytics.
