Here’s a little about the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Fresno State and the position they are recruiting for: The Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management plays a critical role in supporting the success, wellbeing, and sense of belonging for more than 25,000 Fresno State students. The division oversees comprehensive programs and services that enhance the student experience — including enrollment services, financial aid, housing and residential life, student engagement, counseling and wellness services, career development, leadership programs, and multicultural initiatives. Grounded in a student-centered and equity-driven approach, the division partners across campus to remove barriers to access and degree completion, strengthen retention, and create inclusive environments where all students can thrive academically and personally. Through innovative programming and strong community partnerships, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management advances Fresno State’s mission and positively impacts the Central Valley and beyond. As the Director of Development, you will serve as the chief philanthropic strategist for the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, leading comprehensive fundraising efforts that advance initiatives supporting student success and well-being. With a strong focus on identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major and principal gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations, you will drive strategic revenue growth and build a robust pipeline of philanthropic investment aligned with the Division’s highest priorities. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Development and Comprehensive Campaigns and working in close partnership with the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, you will shape and execute integrated development and campaign strategies that elevate student-centered programs and services. You will act as a key connector between University Advancement and divisional leadership, ensuring cohesive fundraising strategies that support essential needs, career development, student belonging, mental health and counseling services, and scholarships that expand access and opportunity across campus. In addition to managing a portfolio of high-level philanthropic partners and prospects, you will contribute to conversations around volunteer leadership engagement, strengthening networks of advocates committed to student success. Through strategic, relationship-driven fundraising, you will secure transformative philanthropic support that connects all students with their full potential and advances institutional priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of four years of increasingly responsible and successful fundraising experience or professional experience with transferable skills such as sales, marketing, or public relations.
  • Experience with a nonprofit organization.
  • Experience with comprehensive campaigns and/or specific experience in major gift solicitation, corporate/foundation relations, or constituent relations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience/background in higher education.
  • Experience with alumni/donor databases and campus applications such as Advance, Reeher or Raiser’s Edge.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management leadership team.
  • Partner with the Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management to achieve annual, major gift, and campaign fundraising goals.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President for University Advancement, AVP for Development and Comprehensive Campaigns, and other senior administrators to identify funding priorities and align philanthropic strategy with institutional objectives.
  • Manage a qualified portfolio of major gift prospects.
  • Develop and implement individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
  • Conduct discovery and qualification visits to assess philanthropic partner capacity, interest, and alignment.
  • Prepare and present compelling proposals; negotiate and close major gifts.
  • Maintain active moves management and participate in regular portfolio reviews.
  • Partner with senior administrators and key colleagues on strategies and proposals for blended and principal-level gifts.
  • Translate student and enrollment needs into compelling investment opportunities.
  • Ensure consistent and meaningful stewardship of philanthropic partners to promote long-term engagement and retention.
  • Engage volunteer leaders and boards in support of divisional fundraising priorities.
  • Support or participate in events designed to identify, cultivate, and steward philanthropic partners.
  • Contribute to comprehensive and mini-campaign planning and execution.
  • Collaborate with the Annual Giving team on unit-based solicitations and special initiatives, such as the annual Day of Giving.
  • Support campaign volunteer strategy and engagement efforts.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of fundraising activity in the University’s CRM system.
  • Forecast pipeline activity and revenue projections.
