About The Position

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Director of Digital Learning & Innovation drives the strategic vision for how technology and creative making enhance the learning experience K-12 at Laurel School. This role manages the Educational Technology Pillar of the Technology & Library Services Department, providing direct leadership to the School’s educational technology program. The Director balances administrative leadership with active teaching and the operational management of the "Collaboratory" (Makerspace). Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Education, Engineering, or a related field is desired.
  • A minimum of 5–7 years of teaching experience, with at least 3 years in an educational leadership or "integrator" capacity.
  • Advanced knowledge of Google Workspace for Education and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Design Thinking and CAD/CAM software (e.g., Fusion 360, Tinkercad).
  • Fluency in Computer Science concepts and languages relevant to K-12 education

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Management
  • Vision & Alignment: Design and align the K-12 use of educational technology to support and challenge the learner, setting and developing the School’s strategic priorities for emerging technologies in concert with the CTO.
  • AI & Policy Development: Manage the school's day-to-day approach to Artificial Intelligence (AI), developing literacy and guidance that align with ethical leadership and critical thinking, in coordination with the AI steering committee and the Chief Technology Officer.
  • Tool Vetting & Compliance: Maintain systems for vetting educational tools for cost, safety, and COPPA/FERPA compliance, while sunsetting outdated platforms.
  • Instructional Innovation & Faculty Coaching
  • Faculty Catalyst: Act as a "just-in-time" coach and collaborator, helping faculty connect digital tools to pedagogy, instructional design, and differentiated instruction.
  • Professional Development: Design and lead training sessions to enhance experiential learning, including summer onboarding for new faculty.
  • Curricular Integration: Research and bring innovative technologies and project-based methodologies (e.g., TPACK, SAMR) into classrooms school-wide.
  • Makerspace (Collaboratory) & Technical Operations
  • Studio Management: Oversee the daily operations, safety, and organization of the Collaboratory makerspace.
  • Equipment Stewardship: Manage the maintenance, supplies, and safe operation of 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics kits, and digital fabrication tools.
  • Certification Programs: Conceptualize and execute training/certification for students and faculty on makerspace technologies.
  • 1:1 Program Oversight: Provide joint oversight of the school’s K-12 1:1 laptop/iPad program, including student onboarding.
  • Teaching & Student Engagement
  • Computer Science & Technology Education: May teach Computer Science, technology, or design electives to Middle School and/or Upper School students, and lead student engagement activities such as overseeing the robotics program, leading and developing maker activities, and mentoring students on Passion Projects through drop-in programs.
  • Digital Citizenship: Collaborate with the Library and Wellness teams to develop and coordinate school-wide digital citizenship and media literacy curricula.
