The Director, Government Relations – Federal will serve as EQT’s senior federal representative in Washington, D.C., developing and driving the company’s federal legislative and regulatory strategy in alignment with enterprise priorities. This role will operate as EQT’s primary day-to-day leader for congressional engagement, with significant autonomy to shape and execute strategy while working in close partnership with the Head of Government Relations and Public Affairs. The Director will advance EQT’s policy objectives through direct advocacy, strategic relationship development, political intelligence, and coalition leadership during a dynamic period for U.S. energy policy. The ideal candidate brings substantial Capitol Hill experience, strong political judgment, and the ability to represent EQT’s forward-leaning brand and business priorities at the highest levels of federal policymaking.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or policy-specific credentials preferred.
  • 7–12+ years of relevant experience, including direct Capitol Hill experience or senior-level federal public affairs work, with demonstrated ownership of legislative strategy and measurable policy outcomes.
  • Deep understanding of the federal legislative process, with familiarity in energy, infrastructure, natural resources, environmental, or tax policy strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to build and sustain relationships with Members of Congress, senior staff, federal agencies, and trade association leadership.
  • Strong political instincts and the ability to anticipate shifts in the policy landscape and adjust strategy accordingly.
  • Experience managing external consultants or lobbying firms and aligning multi-channel advocacy efforts.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing senior executives for high-stakes congressional engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently, lead without formal authority, and influence across a matrixed organization.
  • Must be based in Washington, D.C., with the ability to attend regular in-person meetings and events.
  • Travel is expected on a semi-frequent basis to both internal and external events.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and drive EQT’s federal legislative and regulatory strategy across priority policy areas, in partnership with department leadership and aligned with broader corporate objectives.
  • Operate as EQT’s senior day-to-day decision-maker in Washington, D.C., exercising independent judgment in congressional engagement while elevating high-impact or high-risk matters as appropriate.
  • Serve as EQT’s primary in-person representative on Capitol Hill, cultivating and maintaining bipartisan relationships with Members of Congress, senior staff, key committees, and relevant federal agencies.
  • Provide forward-looking political intelligence and strategic risk assessment related to federal legislation, regulatory developments, committee dynamics, and election-cycle implications.
  • Translate business priorities into clear, compelling federal advocacy strategies and messaging in coordination with internal stakeholders across policy, regulatory, communications, and commercial teams.
  • Lead preparation and strategic positioning for high-level congressional meetings, hearings, executive fly-ins, and advocacy engagements.
  • Manage and direct external federal lobbying firms and consultants, establishing priorities, aligning scope with enterprise objectives, and monitoring performance in coordination with senior leadership.
  • Lead engagement with federal trade associations and coalitions, assessing when to shape, lead, or differentiate from broader industry positions to best advance EQT’s interests.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of federal engagement activities in EQT’s CRM system (Salesforce), ensuring visibility, coordination, and strategic alignment across the organization.
