About The Position

Birdy Grey is looking for a highly strategic, data-driven Director of FP&A to lead our financial planning and analysis function. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will transition the finance team from a reporting center into a value-driving engine. You will be responsible for high-precision modeling, cash flow integrity, and maintaining a "skeptical auditor" lens to ensure our growth scales sustainably.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in a FP&A role, ideally experience in a high-growth DTC or e-commerce environment.
  • Some experience in corporate finance, investment banking, or management consulting is preferred but not required.
  • Mastery of Excel. You must be able to audit complex models for formula integrity.
  • Ability to bridge the gap between complex data and executive-level strategy. You don't just report numbers; you provide the "Why."
  • Exceptional verbal and written skills with the "candid peer" wit and presence to challenge senior leadership on budget variances.
  • Bachelor’s in Finance, Accounting, or Economics; MBA or CFA is a significant plus.
  • Impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform data deep dives to surface actionable insights.
  • Proactive problem solver with the ability to troubleshoot and/or escalate issues effectively.
  • Hard working and willing to roll sleeves up - no job is too big or too small.
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit. You thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, fluid environment. You are comfortable with ambiguity and take initiative to lead projects.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Modeling & Revamp: Lead the comprehensive overhaul of the company’s demand and operating models to improve predictive accuracy and SKU-level forecasting.
  • Liquidity Management: Architect and maintain a 3-month weekly cash model to ensure precise short-term liquidity and working capital planning.
  • Executive Partnership: Co-lead Monthly Business Reviews (MBR) with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), providing a company-wide overview (down to Net Income) compared against Plan and Previous Year.
  • Inventory & Buy Oversight: Partner with Merchandising to review the 12-month buy calendar; manage and challenge buy requests based on YoY growth assumptions.
  • Cross-Functional Accountability: Conduct monthly individual deep-dives with ELT members to audit OpEx, Marketing, and Merchandising budgets, identifying margin leakage or cost-saving opportunities.
  • KPI Management: Define and monitor critical North Star metrics including Cost of Products, Cost of Delivery, and Cost of Returns, as well as inventory health (MOS, Aging, and Write-offs).
  • Long-Range Planning: Maintain the 3–5 year strategic roadmap to support capital allocation and potential expansion initiatives.
